Going to vote today and reading things online and listening to campaign speeches and debates, candidates are talking about our best days being behind us as a country.
That got me thinking about the Jack Nickolson movie (of the same title) As good as it gets where he comes out of the room with the psychiatrist and to those in the waiting-room says/asks/wonders aloud: What if this is as good as it gets.
Have you ever wondered if what if this is as good as it gets for Florida athletics. What if what the two top programs are right now about as good as we can expect them to be realistically?
I mean, the bar was set so high back in 06-09 when the football and basketball team combined to win four national championships in such a short span of time.
Realistically, that's never going to be accomplished again. The Big two sports won't combine for four national titles in such a short period of time - if they win four combined going forward ever.
What if that was the heyday of Florida athletics.
What if the Gators never reach that peak again.
Will you - just your opinion - be happy following along if the Gators aren't among the elite of the elite?
Now, I'm not talking about top 20 type of programs. Forget happiness, the Gator Nation should be pissed if the two teams aren't top 20 type of programs on a yearly basis (and neither finished in the top 20 this year).
What realistically should we expect of the two top revenue sports at Florida with the understanding of what happened back in 06-09 isn't going to happen again.
