Can y'all help me with something being discussed on the Gamecock boards? Is the rumor true that the AD forced Muschamp to hire Weis at Florida? I have a hard time believing that but the rumor still swirls.

Thanks!

What difference does it make? Muschamp sucks. It doesn’t really matter who he hired.

He’s the same guy that hired Roper at UF. Roper sucked so bring the brainiac that Muschamp is he hired Roper again at USC only to fire him.

The guy just doesn’t know how to run a program. He’s one of those type of coaches that isn’t head coach material and is a DC.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I never liked the Muschamp hire! He is a DC at best. I am just tired of the sunshine pumpers blaming his lack of success at UF on an AD forcing him to hire Weis.

His lack of success at UF has nothing to do with UFs AD. Muschamp just wasn’t ready for the UF job. He may have learned a few things but he’s not going to do a good job at USC either.

If Muschamp could have figured out how to hire an OC, hand him the offense and say "score me 30 points a game", he would still be here and would have titles to his name. He built so good a defense that an offense with a pulse would have put us up near Bama. Sadly, he was incapable of doing that. His goal wasn't wins, it was defensive rankings. He would rather have gone 8-4 and had a top rated defense than 15-0 with a top 10 defense. That's why he insisted on running an offense that played for nothing but field position.

My admiration for Boom is well documented, but his supposed inability to give his OC’s autonomy may be the biggest impediment from him being a great coach imho. I don’t know how it’s playing out in Columbia, but if he still has the same offensive philosophy that it seems he displayed here I just don’t see him being there much longer.

To actually try to answer the question, back at the time, there was a lot of talk that Foley "forced" Weis on hi because of all the experience that he had as a head coach and as an NFL play caller, not to mention that it was the style of offense Champ wanted to run.

Is that true? It was never confirmed as far as I know but it does sound like a pretty plausible story.

Our first losing streak to Georgia(2011-2013) since the 80's was all we needed to know about Musdump.

It was a circus about that time...football was a joke.

I know SC bombed the bowl game but I was shocked to see SC was ranked 24th in passing yards a game after the regular season. He must have backed off his control some.

I guess at USCjr you can go 7-6 and get shutout in bowl game and get contact extensions.

That’s right. What should they expect. At UGA or UF, I think winning the east 2 years out of 5 is a reasonable expectation. At USCjr, if you win it once in 7 years you should be turning cartwheels.
