Although his former assistant Tom Hermann is still employed there along with another Meyer assistant at Florida, Charlie Strong, preceding Hermann.

Reasons why Meyer won't become the next Longhorns coach. Then again, we've seen this before.
If he becomes the next coach at Texas, rumor is the contract would be for 7 years, $84 million.

Oh, and Nick Saban will get another raise and say goodbye to Fishers recruiting in the state of Texas.

Would find it hard to believe Urban would take that job. Too much oddness with the Herman connection Plus the roster is not nearly what Urban walked into at either Florida or Ohio State. That place is just too unstable.

Geoff Ketchum was talking about it yesterday on Bill King. He thinks they are talking, and that guy knows his sh!t about Texas. He said it was 50%-50% odds which isn’t muchof a prediction, but he couldn’t rule it out.

I can only imagine what Tom Hermann has been going through this whole season about the possibility of him being shown the door as he has been a disappointment at Texas. I also doubt he would have won it all had he gone to LSU as Ogre caught lightning in a bottle with Joe Brady.
If Meyer doesn't accept the job, I doubt there is a coach right now other than Meyer who will turn Texas back into a powerhouse again.

CUM wont go to Texas and put up with the major donors that are very meddlesome pand think they’re in charge of everything. It’s a shit show

If CUM ever coaches again my bet would be $C or Norte Dung

I think Texas, unlike other schools currently in a downward spiral, is in too good a situation to stay down forever. It’s too easy to recruit there and the talent pool is big enough that a couple good classes and they’re back in it. Plus they have actual tradition and history, and Austin is a great town. I can’t see them staying down forever

I wouldn’t be surprised if he took the job. I could see him giving it one last go at Texas, USC or ND.

Austin has become a shithole of leftness. But that aside, UTexas has more money than Bill Gates. Urban might decide to take the money and run on a shorter contract. It's what Urban does best. Come in, recruit like a madman and build a quick program and then run when it all implodes. I would say he might consider it, before he floats off into the sunset one final time. It's a made to order custom project for him.

Well Coach Mayer is one heck of a coach, not sure if he has the same fire in him but he can be lethal at Texas or USC. Fan of him for life :)

I prefer leftness. I like more bars than churches

Paco,

For $12 MM / year I would take the job !

Agree with you on the schools; ND - perhaps his favorite not currently open, but the the other two - USC & Texas are both historic jobs.
Texas started playing organized football in 1893 with the nickname Longhorns.

Formed in 1888, the USC program has over 830 wins and claims 11 consensus Division I Football National Championships.[2] USC has had 13 undefeated seasons including 8 perfect seasons, and 39 conference championships. USC has produced seven Heisman Trophy winners, 81 first-team Consensus All-Americans, including 27 Unanimous selections, and 510 NFL draft picks, most all-time by any university.

Not sure of the Natties - could be like Bama's claims - but the rest is probably pretty accurate.

If Urban stayed 4 - 6 years - his usual - a nice nest egg to carry off into retirement !

Besides, he might pull it off. If so, think of his legacy!

Success at either USC or Texas would be unreal.

He would be the only coach to win Natties at three schools in three different Power Five conferences.

Hate to be his successor though - LOL.

If he needs to put food on the table (Patrick Ewing) then I could see it happening.

Nick,
Don't know Urban - there are probably few that do - but doubt that $$$ is the only thing at work here.

Looked up some coaching facts -

Meyer (3 total - 2 @ UF, 1 @ tOSU) & Saban (6 total - 1 @ LSU, 5 @ Bama) only coaches to win Natties at two different schools - ever, as far as I could tell.

Saban (6) tied with Bear Bryant for most Natties. Saban has a chance to pass Bryant & take the lead for the most Natties this year.

Only chance for Meyer to get his own page in the record books is for him to win a Nattie at a third different school. That would give him 4 total & tie him with Frank Leahy & John McKay - pretty good company.

IMO, no chance for him to surpass Saban in total number of Natties. He won't stay at one school long enough.

Another feather in the cap for Meyer (& Saban) is that there are no disputed Natties or co-champions anymore !

Natties are now exclusively won on the field - not voted on by sportswriters !

Urban Meyers flirtation with Texas has ended?

I guess it’s the time to announce that my flirtation with Jennifer Aniston has also ended. It has nothing to do with the restraining orders, just, you know, amicable.

If they end up canning Hermann, I'm sure Hugh Freeze would jump at the chance to coach at Texas.

How so? I’m not a fan of organized religion and I am a fan of revelry and live music. Aka perfect sense to me
Yeah I’d go with the revelry and live music over saving your soul for ETERNITY! This life is but a grain of sand in the beach of eternity. But, party on Garth?

"...The university source said Herman isn’t a great personality fit and angered the administration and donors as much for not having his team standing together for The Eyes of Texas earlier this year as for his team’s sloppy play in a 1-2 Big 12 start."

The nerve of Tom Herman & his players !

Obviously, Herman doesn't understand Texas & its fans.

Compare & contrast - Dan Mullen walks off the plane doing the Gator Chomp !

Forget her, bro. She did the same thing to me

It doesn't look like he's going to get his chance to coach Notre Dame like he's always wanted, but him at USC would be absolutely unfair. I'm not sure how they don't open the check book for him.

TEBOW TIME,

Why wouldn't he take Justin Fields ?

Then he could install his spread offense quicker ! LOL
Cause Trevor is a better QB and could possibly play 15 years as a pocket QB, The Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts type QB's have a window of maybe 5 years cause all they want to do is run and will eventually get knocked on their A$$.

I wonder how Meyer would do in the NFL. I think these big time college coaches know now not to jump in a situation where you don't have one of the better QBs in the league. Saban and Spurrier learned lessons with that but I guess Carroll after college success was able to get the QB in the draft after a few mediocre seasons but Meyer would want a short timetable I am sure.
