UF Program

I think Mullen is going to do great things here at UF. He can coach and he can develop talent. He knows how to be a CEO and run a program. He’s building the roster back up to where it needs to be. It’s going to be a fun ride IMO.

6. UF 2020 Class. o_O

The composite has us at 5 in case anyone is wondering :) I think we get that OG next Friday as well.

I do like how Mullen is getting to kids early this cycle. Just a few weeks ago, I liked our overall position but those top 4 teams were already at 17 or 18 commits. Nice to get some folks on board - and Mullen has shown he can close late so hoping we push out a couple of the lower ranked guys and improve the BC %...but that's just the stat geek in me coming out.

Needs to pick up the recruiting to really be competitive for a national title, but it is certainly going in the right direction.
Recruiting is going great. There really isn’t that much difference between the #1 and #10 class. Clemson has recruited well but they haven’t always recruited this well.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of the past national champs had recruiting classes consistency ranked in the top 3. We are doing great, but need a bit more push to seriously contend.

Top 6 area recruiting consistently probably gives enough to have a chance in the Playoff system. I think to win one besides that it would have to be like Clemson did in 2016 where your QB and D linemen were top line elite.

Bama has been winning most of their championships recently with the # 1 talent composite that season. Clemson did win their 2 championships with a # 9 and # 6 talent composite but had top notch QBs both years.

Bama is the outlier. They’ve made people believe you have to have #1 class after #1 class to win but that wasn’t really the case before they came along. Not even teams like the early 00’s Miami, FSU in the 90’s, Pete Carroll’s USC, or Meyer at UF had #1 classes regularly. What they did have was great coaches and elite QB play. QB play is the great equalizer.

Yep. QB play is the difference maker. Look at our national title teams and who are QB was. Like you said Bama is the outlier but teams with difference maker QBs are winning national titles.

Mullen is the right guy. If the past several years since Meyer have taught us anything, it is to enjoy it while you have it.

There are good things ahead...and this might be the last good run in sadgator’s lifetime...he is going to savor every moment.
Agreed

Yep QB is the biggest thing for sure. I would say since about the 2003 season when this stuff has really been tracked so much that 2010 Auburn and 2016 Clemson might be the only 2 champions not to have a couple of top 6 area recruiting classes on their roster. Auburn might have been an 8-4 type team without Cam.

Yes if you’re generally in the top 5-7 area and have top QB play you can win. Look at our team last year, our composite talent rating was outside the top 10. But put Trevor Lawrence on our team and do we lose a game? Probably not. And that’s with the worst three year stretch of recruiting for us since 1990.

Get a great QB and a couple blue chips at key spots and then it’s coaching and luck.

...and this might be the last good run in sadgator’s lifetime...

I agree, but the gap between what the top 3 are stockpiling is still wide. Look at Clemson's class. It's crazy.

It's not realistic to expect Florida to get Top 3 YET. That will come when they start winning SEC titles.

The top 3 classes are either coaches that have won multiple NCs at their school, or Kirby, who is selling recruits on him turning Georgia into Bama East. Kirby is already starting to see recruits leave him cause they aren't seeing the NCs he promised.

Florida is just fine. The next step is for Mullen to prove that Florida will contend for the SEC every year. That will lead to slightly better recruits. Then he can take those slightly better recruits and start winning SEC titles with them.

Which will lead to slightly better recruits. Then he'll start contending for the playoffs every year, and that will lead to slightly better recruits.

Florida is just fine. In 3-5 years they will be an annual contender for the playoffs.

This is becoming a real thing. It's not as fast as I want but Mullen is building a monster. All you leg humping fags are going to start eating your words soon. We're stacking blue chippers with a coach that can get it done. I can't wait to not seeing you on our board coming up.
Not as fast as you want? What 15-0 and winning the CFP in year one? I’ll take last year over what Psycho Jim McElwain was doing.

The past national champs are Clemson, Alabama, Clemson and Alabama, and Alabama and Alabama, and Ala with an Ohio State mixed in.

Clemson is currently kicking azz. Clemson hasn't always had top 3 classes. However they have hovered in the top 10. Clemson has had that badass in most classes. Clemson has let their assistants and coordinators get players who match their system.

Alabama has done that plus pluck the best of the best for about a decade.

Without looking Ohio State hovers consistently around the top 5 range I assume.

Clemson has also done a very good job keeping their staff intact. Not a lot of turnover on Swinney’s staff. That makes a big difference as well.

I'll just drive the bandwagon and let the coaches worry about everything else... ;)

About the most impressive thing that I've seen in college football over the last 10 years. Dabo really gets the players that fit his system and keeps them...keeping the same coaches (good ones too) is huge.

I've no problem with changing coaches, when it's at least even up, or better yet an up-grade...
i.e. Gray for Warren. o_O
