--Multiple coaches discussed that the offense recorded a handful of explosive plays (runs of 12+ yards, passes of 20+ yards) during Friday's scrimmage.
--In particular, tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Greg Nord mentioned that running back Mark Thompson recorded a touchdown run of 60-70 yards during Florida's 2-4 minute simulation.
--Tight end DeAndre Goolsby made a "nice, long catch" in Friday's scrimmage, according to Nord.
--Wide receiver Ahmad Fulwood, who returned to action Friday after nursing a leg injury, had a nice catch-and-run as well during a situational drill, according to Nord. “He’s made a couple of good plays on the ball, using his size," defensive backs coach Torrian Gray added. "He had one good play, long one out there just being a big body and plucking a ball. It’s good to see.”
--One name in particular Gray had praise for from the wide receivers is JUCO signee Dre Massey. “The guy who kind of jumps out to me because of his speed is Massey," Gray said. "When he’s been out there he’s caught some balls down the seam and kind of separated from us a couple times, I’ve been impressed with him.”
--Meanwhile, redshirt senior running back Mark Herndon had an impressive run during UF's final overtime period of the scrimmage, according to Nord.
--Nord mentioned all four tight ends receiving a good number of reps in Friday's scrimmage. "I was happy to see the tight ends rotate in there," Nord added. "All of them had a chance to get a lot of reps. I worked them with both the ones and twos so we get a chance to see them against the same competition on the other side. I think they’re coming along good."
--Kicker Eddy Pineiro "did alright" in the scrimmage according to Nord. "We’ve actually put him under the gun," Nord said. "We’re simulating a lot of the things that he’s gonna and making it hard on him. To be honest, we’ve put him in some tough situations so that — it sounds crazy as a coach — but putting him in some situations so he learns how to deal with non-success if it happens. So he had one real long one that he actually missed but he came back and didn’t let it bother him. I know one thing, I’m glad he’s with us.”
--Gray on the defense's overall performance in Friday's scrimmage: “I thought we were good in some forms of it. Some forms of it, the offense had some explosive plays, which we’ve obviously got to clean up. Overall, I think we’re going to like what we’re going to put on film with the understanding that we’ve got a lot of work to still do.”
--Gray on how the secondary performed Friday: “I’ve seen us in some respects get better as a group. In some respects, we were part of some long pass plays, part of some long run plays. The secondary is involved in those. I was pleased that we had some turnovers, but I’m also going to watch on film what we’ve got to correct the things that gave up explosive plays.”
--As far as the defensive backs who notched turnovers, Chauncey Gardner and Marcus Maye each recorded interceptions. Duke Dawson had a potential pick-six but a penalty was called on the play. "We got our hands on the ball, and we did some positive things, but there were also some long plays that we got to clean up," Gray said.
--From what ITG has heard, Jalen Tabor also recorded an interception during the scrimmage on a pass from Austin Appleby. "Tackling ability, I’ve seen him make a couple of tackles out here today that I was very impressed with," Gray said of Tabor. "The running backs didn’t fall forward, the receivers didn’t fall forward. They didn’t get a lot of yards, so I’m pleased that he’s conscious of that and challenging that. You know, ‘let’s be better at a tackle.’”
--From Kerry Dixon's point of view during Friday's scrimmage, regarding the wide receivers: "Well, we'll watch the scrimmage and then the coach will address that on Monday. But we did decent things from what it looked like from the naked eye. Not as good as it seems, not as bad as it seems, always in between is what I say."
