The year was 2010 and the player was QB Tyler Murphy. Before that it was 2008 with a DT Bryan Jones. And we took 2 this year. In 4 years will they have contributed anything to the Gators?

Now in the short term would we have been better keeping Muschamp? He was probably one win from keeping his job. That and Cowart, Davis and others would have gone here and gave us a top 5-10 recruiting class.

I think that Jackson kid could grow into a nice LB in a few years.

Muschamp had to go it was getting to where offensive players wouldn't even consider us.

You never ever keep a coach just for recruiting. McElwain did an excellent job with this recruiting class. The only guy we really didn't get was Cowart but we got Ivey and Jefferson. I'll take that trade all day long.

Was Jordan Scarlett, Callaway, Cronkite, the TE who committed in December, D'Anfernee McGriff, and Nick Buchanan really ever realistically on the radar when Muschamp was here's?

You seriously wanted to keep Muschamp all over Bryon Cowart and a "top 5 class"? We would have had Ivey, Jefferson, and Cowart. 3 five stars. 2 wanted to be Gators no matter who coached. They were true Gator fans liked they claimed, not Muschamp fans. But I doubt Muschamp and his inept offense would have got the signatures of 4 starsCallaway, Cronkite, McGriff, and Scarlett. So without those 4 stars we would not have been ranked top 5 even with Cowart. We would have been ranked top 25 (just like now) with a coach who does not know how to manage a program or put an offense on the field. Oh...let's add if Muschamp was still here he would probably named Jeff Driskel as the starter for next year. So we would be stuck with Driskel, Mischamp, and no good offense commitments. I'd trade that anyday for a drama queen diva princess Byron Cowart.

Butch Jones at UcheaT is living proof that all the talent in the world on your sidelines doesn't add up to a single win on the football field if you have incompetent coaches and a bad coaching philosophy. With Muschamp here, our offense was dead, completely and it didn't matter who we hired on the offensive side of the ball. We just were never going to convince any talented kids to come here and play under such an anemic offensive philosophy.

The 2 star I remember the most is Jabar Gaffney, signed as an afterthought only because he was a Gator legacy, turned out to be one of the greatest WRs in UF history.

Vernell Brown was another 2 star whom too was a Gator legacy and local product. Many people thought he was giving a ship only because of being a Gator kid. He didn't have the career like Jabar Gaffney but he was the leader and heart of Meyer's first team at UF, which in turn led to many years of success due to that foundation.

The facts are that most 2 stars don't pan out. Go to the rivals 250 of past years and see how many 5 and.4 stars were college stars and are in the NFL now. Mindanao like U.K. basketball. Hard to beat a team with 8 5 star players each year. Like an NFL team having picks 1-10 of the NFL draft each year.

It probably was before ratings, but Bell was a walk-on. A guy by the name of Louis Oliver was a walk-on as well.
