Time to revisit term limits for Congress

weill past the time but the problem is who has to vote to pass the law
So let's look at this logically: Why are Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden still working?

Biden is 80, McConnell is 81. Both have serious health issues, and are both clearly in decline.

Yet both are worth millions. As @kalimgoodman will tell us, we know that Joe is worth at least five million, based on the bribes he got from Burisma alone.

So again, why are they still working?

It logically makes NO sense. They are clearly too old to do their jobs. Continuing to do their jobs is clearly putting their health at risk. And the most interesting part is....they have plenty of money!

And it's not just their decision, their families are fine with them continuing to work. Even though the turtle likely had a stroke today, and Biden collapses at least once a week.

So logically....why in the world are they still working???

What if they are being forced to? What if those millions they have accured came with strings attached?

What if the same people that gave them their millions told them to stay in office working for them?

Think about how many prominent politicians on both sides of the isle work well past their 80s. Most literally keep working till they die in office, or till they become completely incapacitated.

It makes no sense. Unless.....they are being forced to stay in office.

I think anyone who has been in office over 2 terms needs to go home and be out of it. vWay to much glad handing goes on and these guys come out worth millions. I am for term limits. If a President can only be in office 8 years then it should be the same for Congress. It would have to staggered to maintain some continuity. But I think both the House and the Senate terms should be 4 years. I have a good friend who is running for the House this election cycle and way way too much time is spent running for office and raising money. I think not only do we limit the terms but we limit when the campaigning can actually start. A. lot of these guys miss way too many votes and their staffs actually pick what bills they are going to sign on to.

Long past time for term limits, the problem is these idiots won’t vote for it for the same reason they work into their 80s. Term limits and/or retiring results in a loss of power. It’s all about power and influence. Hence, why they cannot be trusted as a general rule.

Politicians will always do what is in their own self interest first and foremost.

Its wild that these old ass politicians think its in their own self interest to subject themselves to this. There is no dignity in this.

I love the idea of term limits. Imagine the panic it would cause in the special interest / lobbyist crowd if they had to buy new politicians all the time instead of having some corrupt POS they have had on the pay roll for40 years. Very disruptive.

They both own multiple homes worth millions, on a government salary. Hmmm.

Totally agree with you on them wanting the power. But I do think the guys and gals at the very top are the most compromised. When is the last time we saw a major leader of either party retire with pomp and circumstance? Most work till they croak in office in their 80s or 90s.

That is NOT normal.

What typically happens is that YOUNGSTERS enter Congress in their late 20s or early 30s, and stay their for 50 years. Congress is their career, when it was always intended to be something that SUCCESSFUL people do AFTER their careers as a SERVICE to the country that gave them their success.

We aren't supposed to have a 25 year old guy join congress and leave 60 years later. He is supposed to go make a career for himself and retire around 55-60, then go spend a term or two in Congress to 'give back' to the country that made his success possible.

I think you are correct that at a certain point it’s not even self interest. They are continuing in office at the direction of their financiers. Now throw in the fact that you may be looking at criminal prosecution (and for most of them correctly so) once you leave office and these people aren’t leaving unless they’re dragged out. Term limits should be a no brainer, the shorter the better, which means they won’t happen.

Scuttlebutt on the UK board is that he’s trying to hold on until the Ky gubernatorial election this November, where AG Daniel Cameron is challenging the incumbent Dem governor Andy Bershear.

The GOP dominated Ky legislature overrode Bershears veto and passed a law that in the event of a U.S. Senatorial vacancy, the party in control of the legislature will present a list of three persons to the governor, who must choose of one the three candidates.

Of our posters claims that Cameron is running a soft campaign in the expectation of losing, and will then be appointed by Bershear to replace McConnell. That’s pretty crazy to me but who knows??

Personally the best case scenario would be for Cameron to win outright. Then other, even better candidates could replace McConnell, such Ryan Quarles who finished second in the GOP primary to Cameron and is considered a rising star in Ky Republican circles. Or better yet, US Representative Thomas Massie.

I am all for term limits - again the problem we have is those who have to vote to pass the bill for term limits are the ones who want to stay in DC forever

McConnell should have been gone a long ago

We need for a certain(only one would ever do this) candidate to put this on his platform.
