This Paxton Lynch dude is nuts...

...not to rehash it...but holy cow....can you imagine if Memphis could play defense?!?!?!?!?

The d steps up when they need to they replaced 9 starters from last year. They play against a few high octane type offenses and coming off another short week after beating a quality opponent.

Muschamp passed on taking Lynch and offered Skyler Morningweg instead. Typical Champ for ya.

Did you see the other players jumping around him in the post game interview?!?!? Crazy cool. They believe. That is one hell of a team. If sadgator was a Memphis fan he would be totally psyched.
Houston vs Memphis will be one of the top games of the year.

Who would have ever imagined?

Tennessee Gator beat me to it, but to add to the story a little bit. Lynch as a HS Sr was playing in a relatively non-discript HS All-Star game in Winter Park. It was something like Orange, Osceola Counties vs, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard counties. Most all of the players were FCS or D2 recruits, but there was still a lot of talent on the field. Lynch completely dominated the game. I sent an e-mail to the UF recruiting office about this guy that they needed to check him out. I think they eventually did, and were thinking of offering him a scholly, but decided to sign Morningwheg instead (yes...hard to believe)! Lynch's HS stats were pretty bad, he hardly through the ball in HS. It probably turned out pretty good for Paxton because god knows what Muschamp and Co. would have done with him.

Skyler had offers from several SEC programs. Memphis was the only program that offered Lynch, save for FIU or FAU?

Pease recruited both of these QBs.

Pease offered Skyler over Paxton because Pease was buddies with Marty. Not because Pease knew other SEC schools offered Skyler. Mischimp approved this.

You cannot be serious.

Skyler was a MUCH higher rated QB.
Because Paxton was injured and played in a Wing T offense and had no WRs to throw to. Coaches saw him in the all star game and evaluated both QBs. It was easy to see Skyler couldn't toss the bass 3 yards. Weis loved Paxton but went to Kansas. Pease recruited both QBs and have the offer to Skyler. Because he was buds with Marty. Not because Skyler was better or rated higher by Rivals,.etc.

Idk how anybody could have watched Skylar and thought he could play QB at this level, he was barely functional in HS. The only worst commit might have been that kid we took from TN who no lie got benched in that game they had on national TV. Anybody remember that one? Just awful evaluations.

People keep saying that, but given that Skyler was a much more highly recruited QB compared to Paxton coming out of HS, I am not sure we can ding the previous coaching staff too much. Yes, we missed on Paxton. But so did every other team in the USA not named Memphis.

Yea I'm not gonna bag on the last staff for not taking Lynch, he was clearly a late bloomer. I will bag on them for taking Skyler though, he was awful, even in HS. One of the least athletic players I've ever seen. He literally couldn't throw the ball 20 yards with any zip.

But his dad was an NFL coach. Just sayin......

I understand. Yet the odd part of this is the number and quality of offers Skyler received. In addition to us, he had offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Stanford, Penn State and Illinois. Other than Illinois, that is a pretty solid commitment list, especially for a three star QB.

I know over the years we have had good discussions on how hard it is to evaluate a QB because the position is so complex. That is why most should be evaluated in camp before being offered. Or more in depth evaluation then watching some highlight reels.

Spurrier was great at evaluation of QB's. His only big miss was Bobby Sablehaus. He evaluated Palmer and Rex off of film only if I remember correctly.Meyer even missed on some but to his credit he recruited NFL talented players who could easily transition to another position(Reed and Burton) but coached miss all the time on the QB position as do recruiting analyst.

Regardless, I don't remember the ship numbers but we should have offered two QBs that class. With some individual evaluation it is wasn't wise to pass up a 6'7 fast player especially when you aren't 100% confident in the other QB you offered.

Not sure. I saw where a few schools offered him as a safety, which also boggles my mind. The crazy part to me is that before he even committed there were numerous people talking about how he had planned to go into coaching, and we obliged as a favor to his pops. And our coach allowed this...insane.

Spurrier did the same thing basically with Brian Schottenheimer.

It's not that uncommon really.

Right but Spurrier had 4-5 other QB's on the roster, we had 2 and then we brought him in as the only QB in that class. That's the insane part, not necessarily bringing him in.

Yeah the year Spurrier brought Schotty in didn't we still have Dean along with Danny and Eric Kessler?

And just went back and looked, Staver was the QB I was talking about. He had that game on national TV against some powerhouse program and ended up getting benched during the game. I remember talking to Tampa about it because we were all hyped to watch him trying to see what the coaches saw.
