As crazy as it sounds without some big upsets outside the SEC the next few weeks the SEC may only get 2 teams in the playoff. Years like this is why the SEC Commissioner wants a 4 team guarantee if we move to a 14 team playoff and why they should have had a 3 team guarantee when they made the 12 team playoff. Years like this is also when you need to hope to have the SEC tiebreaker to make the SECCG to control your own destiny.

ACC (2): Barring a big regular season upset both SMU and Miami will be in the playoff. An 11-1 regular season Power 4 is almost a lock to get in.

Big 12 (2 or 1): If BYU loses this Big 12 championship game then 2 teams here get in the playoff. Only BYU if they win the Big 12 championship game.

Big 10 (4): Oregon, OSU, Indiana and Penn State are almost locks to get in. See above.

At large: Notre Dame at 11-1 with that A&M road win will be in.

5th conference champion: Boise State or someone else will get this automatic spot.

There are the 10 or 9 teams besides the SEC that will likely make it.

Edit: They will assure at least 3 SEC teams get in it looks like now. The ACCCG loser will be out.

Just thinking depending on how things shake out Ole Miss could actually be left out of the playoff due to their overall schedule if 3 teams don't get in from the SEC.

In my humble opinion, the sec will get at least 3. Looking at schedules, Bama is in the drivers seat. They will win out and finish 10-2, and the best part is they will most likely avoid the sec champ game, hence backdooring into the playoffs like they did a few years ago. The question is who will be the other 2 or 3? Texas is most likely a lock, even with a loss to TAM. Vols are sitting great, as they can afford 1 more loss. Then you have ole miss sitting there. So I'm going with Texas, Bama and Vols as the 3 sec teams, with an outside shot by Ole Miss or Georgia.

TN if they win out and the Texas - A&M winner are the 2 locks in the SEC I think barring them getting an upset somewhere else. If GA beats TN things get more complicated. I think a TN win over GA probably screws Ole Miss for sure barring big upsets in the ACC.

1. Texas, 2. Alabama, 3. Ole Miss, 4. Georgia
If Georgia wins out

Playoff ranking is all that matters. I think Ole Miss will get screwed if Bama is in front of them and TN beats GA eliminating Ole Miss most likely from any SECCG. The schedule will get them left out.

Notre Dame and Tennessee are the worst 1 loss teams in the nation.

Both control things though just like Colorado...Fun fact Texas hasnt beaten a top 25 college football playoff ranked team this season.

There's no SEC teams that are any good this year, fortunately for them no teams from other conferences are either.. Im telling you if Ole Miss could get back to full strength off a bye they could play with and beat anyone.. the way their defense is playing right now (who lead the nation in sacks and tackles for loss, both of which came aplenty yesterday) their last two games they just bitch slapped Arkansas and UGA like they were nothing. The way Kiffin is dialing up ball plays right now if he gets Harris back and how their D is playing, I'd love to see kiffin get a crack at any of these "top" teams this year.

What's the big deal? I can still remember when 2 SEC teams made the NC game when there was only one game. 😂 This is complete sarcasm, I get your comment. The SEC is still king. Having less than 3 SEC teams in the playoffs is nothing but another DEI policy. I thought we just swept that BS concept out the door?

Florida will pay the price for YEARS for not taking advantage of this perfect opportunity to land Kiffin. And guys like sad will continue to say “we don’t want Lane”

I think Kitten has grown up. What Kiffen might be afraid of is a weak and fickle administration and AD which is what Wikipedia depicts these days when you look up UF. How far the mighty Gators have fallen.

I agree but if TN beats GA I think Bama is close to being assured of a #3 SEC spot if they win out. If Bams is in front of Ole Miss in the Tuesday rankings Ole Miss is in deep trouble. That joke out of conference schedule will be used to keep them out I think.

If you watched the UGa game last night his WR were WIDE open all night. And he was down his two best offensive weapons.

In the NIL era, its not all tecruiting and coaching is becoming more significant. Hence the dip from UGa and emergence of Ole Miss. Lane is an elite offensive mind

There really aren't a bunch of them anymore. Mike Leach is dead. Spurrier is retired. Urban Meyer is weird, and a basket case, and as is his protege', Mullen. Good offensive minded coordinators with the ability to be head coach don't grow on trees. We've had both Spurrier and Meyer and it's going to be damned near impossible to go back to 3 yards and a cloud of dust philosophy, the NFL be damned. Napier is that guy plus the 5 yard bubble screen.

I'm also beginning to doubt the Dwags losing Todd Monken had any impact on on their suckness on offense despite all the 5 star talent. They've been missing Bennett for two seasons now. When I checked Monken's resume, he produced a 13-25 head coaching record at Southern Miss, although he improved his last season there with a 9-5 record.

Lane Kiffin has always said one of his idols was Steve Spurrier hence why Lane wears the visor. They could make a good team but if anyone watched the game yesterday then they saw his future QB Austin Simmons march them down the field to tie the game up when Jaxson was out. He might not be a Lagway but hes gonna have talent next year in Oxford also. Be hard for Lane to take on our dumpster fire when all he has to do is win 8-10 in Oxford and he will have a statue outside the stadium.

If Lane does take over in Gainesville next season, I doubt a majority of players bail on Kiffin. I can only imagine the current UF roster thinking what if they got an upgrade in coaching. We're only kidding ourselves if we believe our players want Sling Blade around any longer, and they sure as hell won't be open about it.

Lane would come to UF with Lagway in a heartbeat.

You have it completely wrong. sadgator has never said that. sadgator has said that he would have trouble trusting Lane, but he never said he didn’t want him. sadgator has, on multiple occasions, acknowledged that Baby Kiff is a great offensive coach and that it would be exciting to see him coaching Florida.

What sadgator HAS said is that Lane Kiffin will never ever under any circumstances become the head coach at the University of Florida. This is true because Florida Admin does not want him (not sadgator). Florida isn’t going to hire him and doesn’t have the balls to do so.

The second reason is that there is no indication whatsoever that he would come to Florida. With the elimination of SEC divisions, the 12 playoff, NIL and the portal, Ole’ Miss’s investment in its program, and the bevy of future Ms. Americas walking around that place, there is zero incentive to abandon something that is working and come to Florida. That is the truth and the reality that many at Florida are reluctant to acknowledge and see clearly.

Much like Nebraska, we had our golden years in the spotlight…but college football has transitioned to a model into which Florida no longer fits. Until Florida makes major cultural changes within its Administration, that will not change.

If I'm Kiffen I don't even consider UF for less than stupid money. I mean in the 18M range. Because that would explain why he would leave a great situation for a terrible one. Pundits around the country would say "I thought Kiffen was a smart guy, why would he pull this move? Wait, how much? Oh, I see. Ok then." Because it would be ASININE to come here. Interim President, unpopular AD, disorganized NIL, there really is nothing to like right now.

We need a new Pres, who is committed to rebuilding the sports program, who then hires a new AD from somewhere that has their NIL on point, who then builds a solid NIL structure, THEN this will be a place that can draw a quality coach.

It sounds like the Arkansas- Mizzu game next week will most likely decide who wins the tiebreaker scenario to get in the SECCG if GA beats TN. Bama if Mizzu wins and LSU if Arkansas wins. GA and Ole Miss are likely out of the SECCG without some big upsets somewhere.

Looking at the articles and talking heads out there it's pretty clear they will not allow the SEC to have fewer than 3 teams in this year so the ACCCG loser will be left out even if a similar scenario (without an injured QB) would have got the team in with the old playoff.

Right or wrong, the sec will get at least 3 in. Depending on how things play out, probably 4. ND could mess that up.

Yep the SEC needs BYU to either win all their games including the Big 12 championhip or to lose a game prior to it to get 4 teams in probably. I think if Ole Miss went a spot in front of ND tonight they would just flip them after they beat Army next week. I can't see them leaving an 11-1 ND out. Also Ole Miss would get a slightly better chance later if GA beats TN but still hard to see them choosing Ole Miss over ND and I think they would point out Ole Miss overall schedule at the end to justify it besides the 2 losses. I wouldn't want to play Ole Miss right now though if I was the other teams.

ND has a road win against one of the top teams in the SEC, so in my view a 10-2 ND team gets in. But you are 100% correct, 11-1 ND team is definitely in. I think the Big 10 will get 4 in.

Same here the Big 10 having the same pull as the SEC won't let an 11-1 Indiana get left out.
