As crazy as it sounds without some big upsets outside the SEC the next few weeks the SEC may only get 2 teams in the playoff. Years like this is why the SEC Commissioner wants a 4 team guarantee if we move to a 14 team playoff and why they should have had a 3 team guarantee when they made the 12 team playoff. Years like this is also when you need to hope to have the SEC tiebreaker to make the SECCG to control your own destiny.
ACC (2): Barring a big regular season upset both SMU and Miami will be in the playoff. An 11-1 regular season Power 4 is almost a lock to get in.
Big 12 (2 or 1): If BYU loses this Big 12 championship game then 2 teams here get in the playoff. Only BYU if they win the Big 12 championship game.
Big 10 (4): Oregon, OSU, Indiana and Penn State are almost locks to get in. See above.
At large: Notre Dame at 11-1 with that A&M road win will be in.
5th conference champion: Boise State or someone else will get this automatic spot.
There are the 10 or 9 teams besides the SEC that will likely make it.
Edit: They will assure at least 3 SEC teams get in it looks like now. The ACCCG loser will be out.
