The Ivy League cancels its football season

Bunch of woke pansies. They don't even let their school participate in the FCS playoffs.

Several reasons why its easier for Ivy League to cancel football than Power 5 schools
  1. There are also financial considerations to take into account for the Ivy League. The conference loses more money on football than any other sport. https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ll-evaluate-feasibility-of-playing-in-spring/
  2. The average undergraduate tuition & fees of Ivy League is $56,631 in academic year 2019-2020. Columbia University in the City of New York has the highest undergraduate tuition & fees of $61,788 and Harvard University has the lowest tuition & fees of $51,925 among Ivy League. https://www.collegetuitioncompare.com/best-schools/ivy-league/#:~:text=League Tuition Comparison-,The average undergraduate tuition & fees of Ivy League is $56,631,the lowest rates of $51,925.
  3. The average undergraduate tuition & fees of Southeastern Conference (SEC) is $10,828 for state residents and $31,429 for out of state students in academic year 2019-2020. https://www.collegetuitioncompare.com/best-schools/southeastern-conference/#:~:text=SEC) Tuition Comparison-,The average undergraduate tuition & fees of Southeastern Conference (SEC),the lowest rates of $23,950.
  4. The 2020 tuition & fees at University of Florida is $6,381 for Florida residents and $28,659 for out-of-state students.https://www.collegetuitioncompare.com/edu/134130/university-of-florida/

This is still somewhat significant and for those ragging on Ivy League sports you have to feel bad for all the kids that play on these teams that won’t get to have a fall season. Just like it was awful for all the athletes that didn’t get to have a spring season.

Agree that it's bad for the athletes. I also think it's totally unnecessary. But the Ivy League is the center of PC, progressive culture so it's exactly what I'd suspect from them.

This has nothing to do with being “PC.” It has everything to do with recognizing the reality of the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic...funny that many refuse to acknowledge that and want to focus on the politics of it...if you think that cancelation is due to being “PC,” you’re probably gonna be pretty shocked when you see what happens in the SEC...

Sorry it's all over blown, flu is way worse and seasons have never been cancelled. I agree though, sucks for the players that prepared.

It's not the SEC you have to worry about. It's ANY conference.

The liberals will now go to work on ALL the other conferences. The spin will be the same "The Ivy League has made it clear they care about the lives of their players. Does your conference?"

All will be pressured to cancel or admit they don't 'care' about their players.

You're right, the SEC doesn't want to do this, too much money involved.

But it's not about the SEC. It's about that 'progressive' college that's in Colorado or Oregon or Washington that's a member of some lesser conference like the Mountain West or Big Sky or Ohio Valley that decides that they don't want to play this season.

Then the whole conference has to cancel. Then that creates a ripple affect....suddenly the SEC teams that scheduled that conference's teams can't play. Then another 'progressive' school decides to cancel, then another conference is gone.

Only a matter of time till the liberals kill the entire season.

Being an idiot has consequences. Worth remembering, being outside in the sunshine is proven to kill the virus. So when the season gets canceled, remember there was zero science behind the decision.

After all, the left told us gathering in huge crowds posed no risk. But apparently that was only if you are looting or rioting.

LSMFAO...good golly, this is the kind of “logic” we’re dealing with folks...it’s 90 degrees in Florida today and the numbers are doing what?

Maybe somebody should have just taken the damn thing seriously from the get go and we wouldn’t be in this predicament...

but...

I think it will be interesting to see how MLB, NBA and NHL handle their restarts. If they can somehow pull it off with out start...stop...start....stop then maybe... if things significantly improve during July, and mortality rates continue to fall the Ivy league may have remorse. My very humble opinion is why not go ahead and plan on CFB starting Oct 1? Push it back now. Buys us some time.

Death rates are falling off a cliff. Because being in the sunshine kills the virus.

Goodness it's like this every day. The irony is, locking yourself in your house and isolating is PROVEN to be the WORST thing you can do.

66% of hoax flu cases in NYC came from people who SELF ISOLATED.

The science is strong, but the left's Trump Derrangement Syndrome is even stronger.

PS: It's still a freaking flu strain. Get out there and live your damn lives.

Worth remembering that the canceling of Spring sports all started with the Ivy League canceling its conference basketball tournament. Remember that?

Same thing will play out here. All it takes is one player saying its not safe to play, and the entire team is down. Which means the entire conference is down.

All it takes is one Power 5 conference to cancel the season, and its done for everyone.

Keep watching...

We all know now that the coronavirus attacks gatherings of Trump supporters, beachgoers, sports fans and bar patrons, and will certainly swarm on schools that reopen, but avoids rioters, looters and mobs that tear down statues.

It's a VERY intelligent virus. Even if the people that tout it as 'worldwide health crisis' are not.

I'll be honest; I'm totally cool with losing the season. I think we have in this country now a few loudmouth idiots who are taking advantage of the majority of the country being good-natured people.

The good-natured people who are the VAST majority of this country need to reach a point where they say enough is enough, grab the brats, take them over their knee, and spank that ass.

Until that happens, the brats will continue to scream. The more we attempt to appease them, the more we have to deal with the insanity we have now.

The Ivy League wusses...
Does anyone really GaS about them or watch them???

Florida has HS teams that could compete with them...
=====

It would not shock me if the idiot Libtards in charge at UF cancelled the season.
And while I would be disappointed, it's not like UF sports are important to the world, to my country, to my state, or to my community.

There were years back in my 30's when I had a lot more important things to do and virtually ignored all sports for a few years. I could do so again without much trouble...o_O

So, word is leaking out that the P5's will play only the other teams in their own conference, with a ten game schedule.
Thoughts?
The Big 12 said today they aren't considering doing that, while the Big 10 & ACC are. We'll see.

All conferences will have to follow suit. That means the money games for all the schools just went away. SEC can eat that for a season, but when you get to some of the conferences like C-USA, some of those programs won't be able to.

It's all over but the shouting.

Nobody knows, that's what we know....let's use caution but no reason to shut things down until we do know. All these talking heads are using it for political advantage.

It's like Bill Nye "The Science Guy" coming in telling us about Global Warming...he's not a scientist. Tucker tore him up and make him look like a fool. Mr Rogers is in the neighborhood...oh the Cookie Monster is in a garbage can around the corner too.

Given the arc we are on, it is just logistically impossible. No finger pointing, just reality. Hope by the calendar year end there is a vax or the number of people walking around with antibodies is so high, the transmission rates crash...then we get back to more of the lives we had....

We had a chance to be way ahead of it, but we had to rush back to “normalcy” when we did, so here we are...

I hope that's the case. We all need it and I hope that things get worked out but some of it's BS.

We are in a weird place with it...it is so far gone now, you really can’t go back to the quarantine...so you have to ride it out, but you can’t just recklessly expose everyone. The best play is to limit mass gatherings like football games to limit mass spread, let those at risk shelter in, and hope the rest of the population takes enough precautions while out and about to limit the spread...then it just flattens off and we move on...

but if you’re watching the rates, we’re like 6 to 9 months off of that. That is why sadgator thinks we won’t play.

it is very very sad.

If you're right that will suck really bad. We all need some relief from this crap.

Psychologically sadgator is even starting to feel it now and can really see it taking its toll on others...

honestly, even though he’s been saying it for a while now, the actual reality of not having a fall with football is starting to sink in. It is an unbearable thought. As meaningless as it is...sadgator gets so much joy from that run of Saturdays every year (all the rituals and ebb and flow of the cfb season calendar), and it carries him through the rest of the year...the emptiness of not having those things is going to be hard to come to terms with.

There will be a college football season but certainly nothing like what we are used too. My guess is a limited schedule with no fans, etc.

It’s not going to be what we had hoped and even though it may be great to play some games it isn’t going to feel like a legit college football season. That’s my opinion anyways.

...and of course it happened, just as we were starting to get really good again....

why couldn’t this have happened under Muschamp?...sadgator would have gladly given up one of those...
I have it from reliable sources Muschamp was actually patient zero

66% of cases in NYC came from people self-isolating at home. There's sound medical reasons why those of us putting science before politics wanted that return to normalcy. It was about saving lives.

I'll take it but there is nothing like just hearing the fans going nuts on plays and screaming when we're on defense.

It won't be. Hate it for the kids that adults had to ruin the year for them. Hopefully this will be a wake up call for the nation to get our heads on straight.

It’s not just the kids that played college football either. Tons of other kids In other sports have had their college athletic careers basically derailed.

Agree, think about the kids at some of the lesser conferences that could have had a huge senior season and maybe use that to get a pro contract. Their chance at playing pro may be completely gone now. They may graduate and move on from sports, and their lives forever changed.
