There’s only one place where these players have a statistical record to examine, and that’s at the high school level.

Analysis of high school vs. college performance
But high school statistics aren’t always reliable, right? After all, the level of competition varies widely, and the windows QBs have to throw through are much wider in high school. The answer, as it turns out, is not really.

I examined the completion percentage of 13 QBs in their college career relative to their completion percentage from their senior year in high school. This is admittedly a small sample size and more study should be done, but the results were striking.

As illustrated in the chart below, when it comes to accuracy, high school stats appear to be a really good predictor of college stats.

UF coach Jim McElwain said it would be mistake to dismiss Luke Del Rio if he makes a healthy recovery this summer from surgery on both of his shoulders.

“Yeah, for sure (it would be a mistake),” McElwain said Tuesday night before speaking at the Gator Club of Jacksonville. “When you look at when he was healthy last season and the numbers he put up in the first three or four games. Very efficient. Touchdown passes to interceptions ratio was really good. Our productivity in the red area was really good.

“He’s a guy that obviously knows what he’s doing and he’ll be ready to go.”

lol So I guess LDR should be battling it out with Toney to start using some of that reasoning above.

Yeah, just as long as you ignore another QB's numbers...

That article left a Gator QB out, why was that?
Zaire --- 152, 56.6% for 10.7 yds/att
Franks - 231, 58.9% for 12.0 yds/att
Del Rio - 255, 70.1% for 8.9 yds/att
Toney -- 252, 70.6% for 11.5 yds/att

Trask --- 161, 73.3% for 15.4 yds/att
17 TD's, 0 Ints, L-87 yds. 145.5 QBR

And I hope those swinging on Zarie's jock realize this too; even
Driskel had better numbers than Zaire in both HS and college.

As long as they produce, sadgator honestly doesn't care who starts or is given a shot. If LDR miraculously starts putting up big numbers, sadgator would be delighted.

However, Mac needs to be real careful here. If he goes with another set of one hit wonder qb's for most of the season, it is really going to affect the perception (fair or unfair) of the way he handles and develops the young guys.
He could very well sell out our long-term stability for short-term (modest) benefit.

And it'll be magnified even more so by the fact that youngsters all around us are lighting it up for other programs.

Jus-damn, that sounds suspiciously like what I've been saying all along, but I know that just can't be....

You wouldn't be ready to kick the TV in if you saw LDR being named the starter right before kickoff against Michigan?

But I asked UF offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier yesterday whether he expects Del Rio to be in the mix for the starting job this fall.

Nussmeier's response: "I do."

"He played some really good football when he was healthy," Nussmeier said. "And obviously he got banged up - banged up worse than we thought at the time...

"We'll get him back, get him healthy. And I think once he gets healthy, he'll go back to being the player that he is."

Calm down Gator Nation.

It's coaches speak.

They can't just come out to the media and say "He is horrible and will never contend"

It's Zaire, Franks, probably Allen, not including some Toney packages.

Let's debate Zaire/Franks on who will win this fall. Not veer off path.

Mac starting LDR and the insuing trainwreck is the one shot we have at getting Chip Kelly instead of Tennessee

You like to tell me how certain players have no chance.
Well, I'm telling you that lyin' cow-Chip Kelly has ZERO chance of ever being the HC at UF. So Book It Bubba... o_O
That would save you from your own major disappointment concerning Gator fooball...

I've yet to see them start the QB that (imoho), is the best QB on the roster, so I'll wait with bated-breath to see who it is this time around. But no matter who they name as the starter, he'd better not screw-the-pooch this time around... o_O

Couldn't care less who they start. In fact, I've changed my stance on Zaire too. My only regret is that they couldn't get in more transfers here. Hell get 10 QB's on the roster. That way all the excuses end one way or another and we won't be blaming yet another QB for the shitshow we see on offense.
