The best job to come open this season is....

Well what jobs are open on the market right now? FSU, Arkansas, UCF, Tennessee, ArIzona St.

Our AD would have been a fool to even entertain the idea of matching after this clown show season.

I'd rather spend the money on a stand-alone football facility.

Jimbo Fisher is a sleazy salesman. His own players said they would transfer if he returned.

Whenever I see him speak I feel the disengenous nature of his tone. His arrogance and smugness made me wish he had a Latrell Sprewell on his team.

FSU will be in a better position without him and we will find out real quick if he is worth being the highest paid coach in history.

If Jimbo Fisher had wanted to come here vs Dan Mullen I would pick Mullen 100 times to none. That has very little to do with his Nole stench either.

As far as it being a better job than any of the current openings I agree. They have pretty good facilities, they paid the 6th highest coaching salary in the nation. They reside in a state filled to the brim with recruits and play in a conference where they should be favored every other year.

Nole fans didnt want to admit it, but Dabo is a far superior coach. He is far more likeable and comes across as a guy who truly loves his players and university.

So, you don't think Jimbo is worth it?
He knew he was leaving in early September imo. He didn't check out as bad as Urban but pretty close. Hell after A&M blew that 30 point lead to UCLA he started making plans especially with his buddy as A&M AD. I think he knew his act was wearing thin and saw a way to get out and get paid.

If you are talking about the best job period, I think it's pretty subjective.

Hard facts are usually down to five things.

1.) Tradition and ability to win.

2.) Fan support and living conditions.

3.) Pay and ability to retain key assistants.

4.) Brand name and recruiting.

5.) Boosters and facilities.

Several of these are interchangeable because tradition plays a large part in recruiting. Fan support and boosters mingle as well.

Taking these things into account I think I can safely group Florida, FSU, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Nebraska in tier one.

Florida got their man after vetting Chip Kelly and gauging Scott Frost's interest. Ultimately Chip Kelly chose UCLA which is just below tier one because of his personality. Los Angeles is much easier to be low key than Gainesville. Scott Frost chose his alma mater Nebraska. Florida chose a proven SEC coach with ties to the school, he got a great pay raise and is comfortable with the expectations. Not a bad third choice.

Texas A&M is in the SEC west, they made a guy with one national title their target and made him the highest paid coach in the history of the game. They got their first choice.

FSU just losr their man, you can chose to believe what caused the rift. They will likely get their first choice by the end of the week.

Tennessee has bungled this hire by a mile. I dont know if anyone knows their timetable.

Nebraska was patient and got their first choice.

All of these schools have rich traditions and great fan support. Their boosters and facilities are either top notch or in the works. Florida, FSU and A&M have great recruiting bases.

Determining the best job is ultimately the individuals choice when all things are equal. Ask a Gator fan, Nole fan, Aggie fan or Vol and Husker fan and expect a homer response. We dont make the choice and arent non biased.

Imo UF and FSU were the 2 best jobs. There is no better jobs in football than teams in florida. Just my opinion

Jimbo Fisher is one of the best recruiters in the game...when you can pull the talent you're going to be in it for a lot of the years your'e coaching. Jimbo has given FSU a lot of success in the past decade.

Are you excited about the potential Taggert hire? Apparently boosters had to be convinced/were told the administration would not let them intefere with any potential hire.

Tennessee situation has them steadfast on this fact.

Would you want him here? Take away who he has coached and look at him as a prospective canidate at Florida.

So I know it sounds ridiculous, but if you’re a program like FSU that has found itself in a pretty bizarre scenario, would it be the worst thing in the world to keep the interim on for a year?

There weren’t a lot of great coaching options for a top program available this year (in other words, low risk gambles) and FSU didn’t find out until very late in the game.

Make it be known that it’s a one year thing. Market the program and have basically the top pick in the next coaching cycle.

Again...I know it sounds absurd, but for in this instance it may work.

The interim bleeds Garnet and Gold. The best options available out there are all highly questionable guys in my opinion, but if you insist on taking on of them, you’re going to fork over a ton of money and be stuck with them for a few years. And this is completely non-biased, but I would feel absolutely miserable if Florida’s last options were Taggart and Strong with a fat outside chance at getting high risk high reward guy in Kiffin (I personally think Kiffin will kill it the next time he gets a big boy job).

So...take it for what it’s worth...but a lost year or two is better than a lost decade.

I think Charlie Strong is a name that would make FSU fans retch . Fair or not he is a 58 year old defensive coach who will be remembered for failing at Texas.

As far as the name most likely to get the shot there is a feeling of meh. I think he would be a good hire and the best hope they have of salvaging this years recruiting class. He has stated FSU is a destination and is a much better coach than people give him credit for.

Like Mullen after McElwain he would be a breath of fresh air after Fisher the greasetrap. Fisher won a title and helped bring FSU into the 21st century when it came to lobbying and getting facilities. He was an elite recruiter, Sumlin was too though.

The ACC isnt the SEC west, Saban is going to eat his lunch.

Im happy we got our guy, Miami got blown out. Its been a good week.

Strong isn't being considered. Keeping Haggins as interim means keeping the dead weight staff that put us in this position. It means another year of uncertainty. It's not an option.

FSU needs their guy in place soon, just in Florida alone you have Dan Mullen, Mark Richt and a potential Kevin Sumlin. These guys are good recruiters.

Not really. I would rather have someone else

The ONLY reason i would take taggart is for his recruiting. Hopefully he can be our zook. Get all the good players and then let a great coach take over. I cant honestly see kiffin at fsu. Not sure why.

I think the OP's thread title is misleading....

I would classify other jobs out there being superior, say like being Emilia Clarke's bathing sponge boy or kegel coach or something

Jimbo was worth what we were paying him. I don't think he's worth $75 million, plus another $60 million for the athletic facility that he was demanding.

He did us a favor by leaving and letting us out of the $40 million buyout.
It is going to be fun to see how much you have to pay for your next coach, plus what facilities you have to promise him.

Oregon is paying Taggart around $3 million now, and I think they offered to pay him $4 million. FSU should be able to beat that and still not have to pay anywhere near what Jimbo was demanding.

I am going to guess FDU will pay him something close to what they paid Jimbo. If so is this a good deal for FSU?

Lateral? Is Taggart going to be a better coach and recruiter?

Yes and yes. Jimbo 2017 was not Jimbo 2010-2013. At all. His offense is stale and predictable. It is ranked barely above UF's.

He was 25-12 in his last three years, several horrendous blowout losses, and as surly with everyone after the divorce as anyone I've seen.

He needed to go, and FSU needed new coaches all the way around. Win win IMO.
