Thank you, Urban Meyer

Doesn't matter. Oregon is going to win it all.

I know they'll be the decided underdog but I wouldn't bet against an Urban coached team. His freshman and sophomore talent and speed is off the charts. Gonna be a fun few years coming up.

Pretty sure Urban didn't get to be on of the top 3 coaches in America by being scared of anyone. Hes not afraid of Saban, Franklin, Dantonio, or Harbaugh.

Some of our fans are delusional...

History (and Florida fans) will eventually come to view Urban differently than they do today. He is the greatest college football coach of our time, and we were so fortunate to have him for the period we did. He did so many honorable and beneficial things for our program while here that it is shameful that he does not have a statue and/or is not in the ring of honor. That will certainly need to change.

I'm not counting Meyer out of this game...his team has been getting better game to game the whole year, even with a 3rd string QB. OSU certainly peaking at the right time.

I will take Urban Meyer coached team any day! He is the best coach UF ever had or probably ever have in future. He did twice of SoS in half the time. We were fortunate to have him and people who have beef against Urban are losers.

Watching when OSU kicked off last night reminded me of when Urbs was here. He had a speed guy on the outside that would run around the end of the protection then cut in and make the tackle inside the 20. It was a thing of beauty.

Urbs is a master at managing a lot of "little things" within a game to get a win. Note that on the final punt, Bama chose to set up for a return instead of going for the block. Well, OSU played it with a high kick, speedy gunners and...NO RETURN. One of those many little things he does so well.

I never understood why Meyer gets so little respect from the Gators. I understand that he is perceived as a bit mercenary, but the Gators must the only fanbase in college football that hates a guy that brought them two national championships.

I know FSU forced Bowden out, but that was more like taking the car keys away from an ailing grandparent. It was painful, but Bowden never stopped being a beloved legend, despite the last few years. Urban seems to be persona non grata and held in contempt in a way that Bobby never was.

Maybe in your circle it is different, but I remember seeing plenty of mind-boggling nastiness towards Bobby, so much so that I was actually surprised.

As for Meyer, I have the utmost respect for his ability, and sincere appreciation for all that he brought to us in such a short stay. No hatred for him, some anger at the way he left, and what he left behind....it shows poor character, which I guess is something we are less tolerant of here.

I remember bobby B trashed a lot on wrchnt long before being pitched out lke yesterdays garbage. But to be honest it appeared to be young stupid nolies (was that redundant) who had no clue of the worth Bobby was to the mustard and ketchup brand. Without Bobby fsu was probably going to be Wake Forest South. The man was a winner and smart as a back room lawyer. As for Urban, the hate for him is easy to see. Many young fellas are jilted by their first gal friend and it was the same feeling with Urb, Hell, some even felt it with SOS who is the greatest single UF sports figure in history. Emotional reactions like that blur the reality of records even recent..

My dislike of Urban Meyer comes solely from the way he apparently didn't develop any of the young talent beginning with the 2008 class. It became obvious that Meyer seemed content to ride out through the 2009 season when he knew he might pull off 3 out of 4 national titles before all the great talent and coaches left, forcing him to rebuild.

On top of that, his recruiting became more focused on star ratings AND he left us without a single decent QB. Brantley couldn't handle it on the field, Murphy was average at very best, and Reed and Burton ended up playing other positions (oh and let's not forget about Driskel).

That 2010 recruiting class that was so heavily vaunted is now being considered our worst class in hindsight by some (especially offensively).

And the way he came back to football only a year later further confirmed that he wanted to leave after 2009 and leave all the problems with the next coach.

So for me personally, it has everything to do with paying him 4 million dollars a year from 2008-2010 and him only doing about half of his duties because he didn't care what happened after 2009, he knew he'd be out the door soon.

I'm glad most Gator fans have gotten over the jealous ex girlfriend thing they had going with Urban. Guy is an incredible coach and we were incredibly lucky to have him.

He is the best coach in college football. I am glad he is not coaching the Gators anymore. Also one of the best recruiters in the country. Ohio State was a great program under Tressel, but they were good to get beat down by the elite teams in college football. I don't think that will happen with Urban. He likely wins multiple titles up there, and that could start this year.

He's not afraid of Saban. He simply couldn't handle being an SEC coach.

He's much more comfortable in the B10. Although that might change now with Harbaugh.

He has a shelf life anywhere he goes, that's why this year was crucial for Meyer, he came very close to going into year four with nothing to show for it.

He needs this or in three more years that program will likely be without Meyer or being hitting a slump, especially with the influx of good coaches into the conference.

Where are his national titles? Also, his record at Stanford was 29-21 in 4 years. There are probably 10 or more active coaches with a better record than Harbaugh after 4 years. Meyer just got his bucknuts to the championship game with a third string QB for God's sake. Harbaugh had his 49ers in 3 consecutive NFC championship games but people remember Champions. And right now Harbaugh is no champion!

Harbaugh took over a Stanford program that was 1-11 the year before he was hired. To look at records only is short sighted. It's Stanford also, most of the best players in the country can't qualify there as they don't lower their standards for athletes. So the pool of talent available to him was slim as well. This guy took the 49ers to three straight conference title games and a super bowl. Only Belicheck is considered a better NFL coach. You really think Meyer is a better coach than Harbaugh?

Bowling Green + Meyer = Winner
Utah + Meyer = Winner
Florida + Meyer = Winner
Ohio State + Meyer = Winner currently 37-3 after 3 years

Answer to your question is: absolutely yes,

I think he is a better coach than Harbaugh.

Last but not least he has an 844. Winning percentage for coaches over 10+ seasons...top five ....Saban isn't in that catagory.

I do. I think Meyer is a better coach than Harbaugh. Harbaugh is very good but IMO some of you overrate him a little bit.

Yes, and if ESPN was to take a poll today, I'd feel confident that the majority of pollsters would say the same. It's all about championships and rings. And what most people are forgetting is that the 49ers were a huge, huge disappointment this year and a lot of that can be attributed to Harbaugh and the internal mess he created. People always talked about Meyer leaving and being afraid of Saban which is BS. But, what about Harbaugh getting totally owned by Pete Carroll and Seahawks ? Before you can label a coach as great/greatest, IMO he needs to bring home the championship/ring. Meyer's won two, Harbaugh.....we'll see. Not saying he won't do well, but let's see some championships first.
