Well, the Lumbee are similar to the Seminole tribe in it is a hodgepodge of left over native American tribes mixed with escape slaves at it's roots. Interesting history for sure, most "Lumbee" are about 1/16 Native American anymore. The final hours of total assimilation of 100,000,000 North American Native Americans, that takes time.

Former basketball coach Kelvin Samson and actor Heather Locklear are Lumbee. Heather's mother is Scottish. The Federal government does not recognize the Lumbee. North Carolina does.

Many of the Lumbee are made up of the tri-racial isolate Melungeon Group, of which I am a part.

I believe our own DCOfTheUTBand is of the Melungeon Group. He shares many of the physical characteristics.
