Just read an article that this is about to happen.

If so, it's about time and very well deserved.

What about me?

and why isn't is urban field and university, since he was so much better. Jesus get it together UF

and Billy needs to have the court named after him when the O'Dome renovation is finished...

Urb didn't play st UF, win a Heisman there or be the first to put them on the road to long term success.

Naming the court after Billy is probably more important. The guy won two NCs at a school that is not a basketball school. In half a century Billy's accomplishments will leave people in awe

Much respect to HBC.

Building programs is a greater accomplishment than winning the most national championships. Spurrier is a guy who builds programs.

Wonderful news and way overdue. All is now right in the universe. Steve no longer walks the sideline in South Carolina. That sad duty now rests with Will Muschamp. South Carolina loves our sloppy seconds.

Much harder to do too, which is why the people who focus on rings only are just simplistic as hell. There are only about 5-10 schools capable of winning a title any given year. Tons of mediocre or even bad coaches have won titles just by virtue of being at a certain school rich with resources. Coaches like Patterson or Briles or even a George O'Leary would coach laps around a lot of coaches, but because they're at bottom feeding schools they have no rings and so nobody considers them to be the best or in that top tier. Les Miles can't even manage a clock and has forgotten what down it was in close games MULTIPLE times yet people have him as a top tier coach because he stacks talent at a resource-rich school and rolls the ball out.

The best coaches are the ones that can coach and can recruit very well. Les Miles is an excellent recruiter, but is only an average coach. His ability to call fakes at the right time is remarkable. As is his ability to game plan for a weakness in the other team. But his game day management is suspect.

There are lots and lots of other examples of this.

And there are lot of examples of coaches that go the other way. Coaches that are excellent at coaching, excellent at player development and excellent at game day management. But they might not be the best of recruiters.

Miles, Zook, Butch, Mack Brown, Richt that is an endless list.

The other end seems a bit thinner. Mark D'Antonio and .......

if you really want to see how good a coach is see how he fares against equal or better talent...

Good list of the former. As to the later, some coaches at smaller programs have done well with lesser talent. One does not know about those coaches ability to recruit until they score a bigger job. Tom Herman, for example. One cannot say he had more talent on the field than FSU for the bowl last year, but he blew FSU out and had a pretty good overall season.

What's sad is I believe when I hear things like that without even looking it up

Can't, some company named ExacTech owns the naming rights to the Arena.
I'm pretty sure UF can name the court after Billy Donovan. ExacTech will be the name of the Arena but I believe UF can call the court Billy Donovan court.

Great news!! Very well deserved.

I can not imagine .. its like Bobby Bowden having won the heisman .. cant imagine one guy being that good a coach and player for same school ... well deserved. Steve was always one smart and crazy son of a ... gun

ExacTech is putting up the funds so they will get the name of the arena but the courts could be named after Billy.

We wanted to do it before USCe.

SOS was a coach there only.....but is not his alma mater where he played and won a Heisman...nor bring a NC. I seriously don't believe Florida did it to beat USCe. I think Foley spearheaded this now that Spurrier retired and before Foley retired as well to set things right.
