Spurrier & Stoops have been BFF's for many years, but Stoopsy made it clear when he left Soonerland that he was done coaching. Why would he jump into the mess in Gainesville when he can live a life of luxury without stress for the rest of his life?
I mean it wouldn't be the worst idea if he came, stabilized the program, and handed it off to a head coach in waiting similar to what he did at OU. But I feel like Stoops being a candidate is a sick joke at this point.
We could do a crapload worse than Stoops (like Zook, Muschamp or McElwain).
I'm not sure we should roll the dice on another up-and-comer at this time.

An maybe a WR's coach as good as Double-D was.
And a ST's coach as good as the Zookster.
With a TE's coach that can put the most productive (18.8 yds/rec) guy on the field.
No, I'm not really that delusional. I also don't give UF a rats-azz chance in hell of making those kinds of hires, so I'll just continue to sit back and relax while I wait to see what they decide to do this time around.

Not even close. From what I understand Stoops' father's death is big is his reason to get out of coaching and have more quality family time.

Who was involved with bringing both Spurrier and Meyer to UF? Did the boosters play a big part or the administration? I ask this because it has felt the last two HC were brought here by the administration and the boosters didn’t have a say so…How much of a say so do the boosters have a say so on who gets the position? Or is there a committee currently made up with people who knows about this game ?
My guess would be the boosters pushed big time to assure Spurrier came here. As far as Meyer Machen made it clear he was the guy no matter what when he disrespected Spurrier with his comments to the media about Spurrier could apply like anyone else when asked about him. Foley had no choice there even if wanted to try one of his crazy I am smarter than you picks like he did when he primarily made the decision on the other 3 coaches. My guess would be when Mac was hired the boosters just insisted on a guy with a background in offense - probably the same now also.

One thing is for certain if Stoops were to come to Florida, He would have a great recruiting advantage in Texas and the Midwest. These local Florida recruits are just not doing well at UF!!! I have to admit Florida has always been the tops but I think Texas now has the better recruits
I said similar with the cultural surrounding the program when Muschamp was towards his downward sprial...it didn't change with Mc.
Who knows. We've had a bad case of suspended players the past couple years.
