Recently I spoke to a D1 assistant in the NE area about how the NIL is being received. Here are some interesting tidbits;
- Overall, it has led to some stress because some kids are getting jealous of other kids and taking it out on the staffs. Like asking coaches "how can you get me to what he is making".
- Some staffs thought that it would be a player only thing but it has since turned into the staffs, support staffs getting these kids deals.
- That is why he thinks more coaches will leave overall because now you are acting as the kid agent, in addition to being everything else.
- Coaches are extremely happy to see some kids be able to give money to their families. As we know, some of these kids come from bad backgrounds and $500 or $5000, goes a long way for them.
- He did say that these collectives, agents, etc are hypocrites because the are doing exactly what they complained about the NCAA doing...making money off the labor, sweat of these kids. He knows they will say "well we are putting money in their pockets" but he still loves the irony.
- Kids are even asking the staffs can this person be trusted and should they do this deal.
- He suggested that 90%-95% of the coaches that he's spoken to would love some regulation on it, the main thing is not allow the staffs/schools to get involved. Make this fully on the kids and compliance.
