The only thing more aubarn than aubarn giving Gus a $49 Million dollar contract for beating Bama is to pay him $32 Million a year later to fire him cause he lost to Bama LOLOLOL

The sad thing is, aubarn could easily be a Top 10 program, playoff team almost every year, but they squander it all cause they want to Beat Bama. Little Brother U to the end.

They should have never gave him another deal if they were that close to firing him last season. If Arkansas hired him away so be it.

Just saw Auburn is only 40-25 the last 5 years since the NCAA changed the rules to allow the defense to substitute if the offense did in 2014. Giving him a restructured big buyout was as crazy as us doing it with Mac probably.

I think some ADs end up doing it as kind of an I told you so to a fan base that’s iffy on a coach.

Sooooo....latest rumor is that aubarn offered Gus a REDUCED buyout AND he can't make staff changes......and reportedly.....Gus took it?!?

Boosters were pissed, and leaked that aubarn wanted Bob Stoops and talked to him in October and hes ready to take the job LOL

So if all that's true, aubarn is now stuck with a coach with no power, that no one wants. Recruiting will go in the toilet, and he'll get fired next year.

And then they will go to hire a stud coach and have to settle for Kevin Steele cause no one else will work in such a dysfunctional program. They forget that this is how they got stuck with Gus in the first place in 2013 when they thought they had Gary Patterson locked down LOL

Auburn is a dysfunctional mess. They aren't a top 10 program. There are 4 programs in the SEC better than Auburn. The problem with Auburn is they think they are better than they really are. Malzahn isn't a good coach but not exactly sure who they are going to get either. In the meantime they are killing their own recruiting while they are

Listen.

I've liked you from day one.

I've said before that you and I should have beers and grill out and watch a game.

I have lots of Alabama fans who are good friends.'

I graduated from Auburn twice and love that town (do I really care about the football? Not nearly as much as I do Florida).

I pull fir Alabama all the time because I love their imperialist attitude to conquering football.

I'm going to ask you to stop with the "aubarn" nonsense.

It's silly and beneath you.

You don't see me saying "f$ucks" like some people...or even "UGAG."

So for me, seriously, drop the barn shit.

Trying to look at it objectively I would probably have them 6th as far as potential goes in the SEC if coaching was pretty equal. UF, Bama, Georgia and LSU should have long term recruiting advantages over them. Texas A&M is in a better situation now than them also being in the SEC. Auburn usually recruits pretty decent under Malzahn but it has fell off a little the past few years.

Yeah I would put them at 5th in the SEC right in front of A&M just because Auburn has a much better past history.

Their problem always has been and always will be that they measure themselves against Bama in every thing and in every way. I've said all along that aubarn has all the resources and support they need to be a Top 10 program. Truth be told, they can probably be as good as Bama, if not better.

But they will never achieve their potential because they are only focused on beating Big Brother. They LIVE to be Little Brothers. Just look at who they wanted to replace Gus: Bob Stoops. Why? Cause he beat Bama in 2013 in the bowl game. That's it. Why did they hire Gus? Cause he was Cam's OC when aubarn beat Bama in 2010.

Tommy Tuberville beat Bama 6 straight times, went 13-0 in 2004. But aubarn fired him after 1 loss to Saban. That's all it took for them to fire one of the best coaches they ever had, and take on massive debt to do so. They fired Chizik just 2 years after winning a NC, because he couldn't beat Bama. They almost fired Gus 2 years after he went to the NC game, because of a bad loss to Bama.

I've said all along, if we ever reach a point where aubarn fans say "We aren't worried about Bama, we're trying to win the SEC", then I'll be worried.

That day will like never come because aubarn lives to be Little Brother and Little Brother will always be in Big Brothers' shadow.

A Michigan fan said it best once: "After seeing Bama and aubarn fans interact for the last month, I can see that Alabama fans want to win it all, aubarn fans just want to beat Alabama."

Yep.

You think Stoops was really a possibility?

Nope. I think some boosters wanted Gus fired, and when this story leaked that he was probably going to stay, they leaked that aubarn had pushed for Stoops.

No school other than maybe SMU in the 80s or Cheatersee in the 90s is more run by its boosters than aubarn. They continually submarine what's best for the program in an effort to Beat Bama. Pat Dye pushed hard for firing Gus in 2015 and getting Kirby but Kirby wouldn't listen. They wanted him cause they thought he could beat Saban.

Love ya, but they are the barn. Always has been, always will be. But I'll try to remember to call them Auburn when talking to you. Best I can do

I think Tuberville definitely deserved another year to see how things were going but I agree with the Chizik firing as he was probably just going to be a one trick pony there with Newton and probably loses 4 games that year with a different QB.

It is kind of funny that they are mad they are stuck with Malzahn at least another year because Malzahn beat Bama last season.

Maybe they can go after Freeze since he beat Bama a few times. :D

I believe that was part of it. Rumor is Gus wanted to hire Hugh as his OC and the boosters wouldn't let him fire Chad Lindsay.

Dumpster fire down there.

Agreed. Chizek is not a good head coach. He just got lucky with Cam Newton.

Hey, not my fault.

Auburn wanted to give me a free education and Florida was like "man we'd love to have you. Tell your alumni dad you're in....and that it will cost him all the money."

To which my class of 76 father said "meh, at least it's SEC and the colors are only a shade off."

No joke.

We then went to the Florida/Auburn game in 2006 so he could get a feel for the town. You can imagine that turned out to be an interesting weekend.

If Auburn does indeed buyout / fire Malzahn, I’m hearing that Bobby Petrino would like to be reconsidered....

And the Auburn administration won’t even have to undertake surreptitious means to interview him like they did the last time...

They tried to get him before they hired Gus. He said no way.

I can't remember all the names, but there were like 6 coaches they pursued before Gus. Patterson, Petersen, Jimbo, Jim Mora, Charlie Strong, Petrino, maybe that was it.

No, this goes back further than that, to when Tuberville was coaching at Auburn.

The Auburn AD (and maybe even the Auburn Prez) made a clandestine trip to a municipal airstrip in suburban Indiana across from Louisville to meet with Petrino about the Auburn job.

Some good work by a Louisville Courier Journal sports reporter broke the story and caught Petrino in a lie when he tried to deny he had interviewed for the job, which I believe was fairly soon after he had signed a contract extension with UofL. Just another in a long line of ethical transgressions by Petrino.

Yes that episode was classic aubarn as well. IIRC, Finebaum helped air out that trip as well, he was buddies with Tuberville. It saved Tubby's job as that swung public opinion behind him.

Just saying the rumor is they went back to Petrino in 2012 and he told them hell no. Along with everyone else LOL

Aubie is kinda my 2nd SEC if I had to pick one, albeit far distant 2nd. The alumni and fans I've met seen seem normal, clean cut, conservative in dress and appearance, and not trashy. Seems like most teams have a swath of trashy fans but Aubie's I haven't really seen. And the Aubie posters on the national boards are cool.
