We definitely got the better end of that deal.

Scott was a lousy TE coach and a worse O/C.

In recruiting, he landed 2* South Fla. kids that Miami, FSU, U/F, UCF, FAU all passed on. Short, skinny, but fast, I'll give him that. They all had speed. Did them no good when they couldn't get off the line of scrimmage or catch the ball when it hit them in the hands. He also liked those 6'3" 200-220 lb TEs for some reason.

Happy Trails.

He was the best recruiter on Jones' staff. Seider was the best recruiter on Mac's staff. Not Rumpf. Which program was recruiting better overall?

Actually, Jones was. But Scott wasn't anywhere in the ballpark recruit wise.

Walt Wells, Brady Hoke, Robert Gillespie, Tommy Thigpen were legions better than Scott as far as recruiting.

Rumph sucks too, maybe the worst recruiter on Mac's staff full of shitty recruiters. Couldn't sign a single DT the first two years. Partly why the defense got gutted all year playing a bunch of freshmen DL.

True...Mac did have a good class going into 2018 but we never won a lot of the recruiting battles that you need too have top notch talent.

Rumph was a terrible recruiter. Even if scott is a bad recruiter at Tennessee, it's easier to recruit to Florida than UT, just a matter of demographics. I know one thing for sure, i trust Mullen's assessment more than that of a bitter vol fan.

You guys have beaten us once in the last 11 years, 8 of which was part of the darkest stretch of football in modern UF history, get ready for more beatings.

Happy trails.

Rumph was very overrated as a recruiter. He’s not that good of a coach either. Good luck but UT is going to continue to suck and lose to UF every year.

Yeah Rumph was pretty bad with DL recruiting.

How any self-respecting Vol fan could talk smack to the Gator fan base at this point in time is beyond sadgator’s comprehension.

It demonstrates a serious lack of awareness.
I don’t think they exist. They just went through an absolute nightmare of hiring process that Fat Phil backstabbed the AD which he has done before and he hired a dummy in Pruitt that he can control.

Not to mention UF, UGA and even USCjr and Mizzou have won the east more recently than the Vols.

Not according to the articles I read. I will be happy to link them for you, if you feel the need for further abuse.

Link away. I saw the results of his great efforts.

As for what he did at Miami, that's all well and good. He just didn't accomplish squat for UT as a recruiter or as a coach. His offensive play calling caused the 1st 8 loss season in over a 125 years of playing football

But he did get Lyle fired and for that I will be eternally grateful.

This was a year where everybody knew Butch Jones was on the hot seat and likely gonna get fired. Why would you expect recruiting to go well? No recruit with options is signing up for that. And then to blame it on one coach makes no sense. The only way UT was gonna recruit well is if y'all had a major year and maybe not even then. The gig on Jones was up.

Fulmer had NOTHING to do with the firing of Currie. Currie's own incompetence( at ISU, he fired the men's basketball coach that went to SC and began kicking ass in the SEC. Your's is the most recent if I am not mistaken. The guy was and is good. That is Currie.

What we had at UT was one puppeteer, the BILLIONAIRE donor owner of the Cleveland Browns Jimmy Haslam( the WORST team in the NFL )imposing his will upon the University of Tennessee along with his brother Bill, the governor of the state and their donor pals over the last 10 years and he was doing it again. . Currie was his man. Greg Schiano was his hand picked coach. Even though Schaino had NO SEC experience, his coaching record was worse than Lane Kiffrat or Botch Jones and of course, the story of how he supposedly told Paterno and the PSU A/D about the little boy rapist and Paterno and/or the A/D did nothing..

The latter blew up when some state politicians got involved. But basically it was MILLIONS of UT fans and the "Other side" boosters who rose up and said HELL FRIKKIN' NO. WE ARE SICK OF HAVING THESE PATHETIC LOSER COACHES IMPOSED ON US WHO ARE NOT SEC EXPERIENCED".

After Currie disobeyed the University President and flew off to meet with some coach when he was supposed to be in Knoxville trying to straighten the Fluster Cluck out, she fired his incompetent ass and hired Fulmer to be the new A/D. UT had not had an A/D with Tennessee coaching experience since Doug Dickey retired.

Fulmer calmed everything down and hired one of Saban's top men, his N/C winning A/D and that is that. How Pruitt does is something for the future to decide. Your University took a gamble with a Saban OC and it didn't end well. So just having the Saban association isn't a guaranteed success.

But most high school coaches are better than the pathetic coach we had.

Now you can believe what you want to. But the supposed "Back stabbing" by Fulmer never happened. Johnny Majors got in Doug Dickey's face, demanding a contract extension right after getting out of the hospital after a heart attack. Dickey told him it would have to wait until the end of the season. Majors told him HELL NO, You will do it now. Dickey told him that he would be allowed to finish the season, but it would be his last. That IS it. Majors, a paranoid, mediocre coach did himself in. Had he not been a UT "hero". His sorry ass would have been fired a whole lot earlier. 71% of all his SEC victories came against the bottom feeders - Ole Miss, Vandy, & Kentucky. The ONLY other SEC team he had a winning record against was LSU at 2-1-1. He got an SECC in 1985 solely because Florida was on probation for the crap Charlie Pell pulled( Johnny lost at home lost to Galen Hall. Only loss that year)

Major's arrogance got his ass fired. Fulmer had managed the team very well in his absence and proved to be a very good( except against Florida) coach. Had we the old set up where the two teams played home and away every 6 years, he would have had far more SECCs. Spurrier was just a better field general while at Florida. At S/C, he got his ass kicked.

Now I expect mocking and being told I am full of $&it. Don't care.

But that is how it came down. Not exactly verbatim, but close enough.

You got a new coach and a bunch of new assistants. Same with us. Georgia is now the class of the East with Mizzu, Ky, S/C and even Vandy getting better. East will be tougher to win now than it has been over the last 6 or so years .Mullen has a lot of things to work out but he has the fortune of being in the 2nd best state as far as producing D-1 talent. Something that Mr Ed didn't take advantage of.

Pruitt doesn't have that luxury. But he has assistants with ties to California, Georgia, Texas, Florida,( the big 4) Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and most have proven track records of success recruiting 4* and 5* talent.

By July, UT was in the Top 15 as far as commits, top 10 in some listings. Mostly due to D/B's OL and DL whom many jumped ship. You have one of our 4* DB's. S/C has another. But that was based on optimism from the previous two years. Wheels came flying off and things crashed and burned.

But what I said about Scott was based on PREVIOUS recruiting. He was never involved with landing any top recruits. Even with his South Florida ties. 3* AND 2* guys were it.

Florida hired former Tennessee offensive coordinator and Miami interim coach Larry Scott on Wednesday. Scott coached tight ends for a total of nine years at Tennessee, Miami and South Florida, so he is an upgrade from Seider in terms of experience at the position.

Scott, who was and raised in Sebring, Fla., also has a strong reputation as a recruiter. Scott helped lead the Bulls to their best recruiting class in program history in 2008, only to surpass that the following year with the nation’s No. 21-ranked class.

Scott then moved on to Miami, where he beat out the Gators for 4-star offensive tackle Tyree St. Louis and signed the nation’s No. 1-ranked junior college tight end, Jerome Washington, in the Class of 2015. Scott also recruited Braxton Berrios, who was Miami’s leading receiver last season.

Scott joined Tennessee’s staff in January 2016, and his impact was felt immediately. He convinced top-100 overall recruit and former Florida commit Tyler Byrd to flip from Miami to the Vols on National Signing Day.

Scott delivered once again the following year, helping Tennessee sign seven recruits from Florida — the most in school history — in the Class of 2017. Former Vols coach Butch Jones praised Scott for his recruiting efforts last year.

What a bunch of misstatements! Let's just call this post Creative History

3* Byrd had 3 catches last year.

2* Latrell Williams has yet to see the field other than SP. Likely to be given a "Git Shirt"

3* OT Marcus Tatum ( 6.6" 254 LBs out of H/S) is very undersized for an SEC OT. He lost his R/S for a few plays against Alabama in 2016 and he played some in 2017. Robert Gillespie & Scott were his recruiters. He had lousy S&C coaches but now has the dude who was the Houston Texan's S&C coach so he might be able to get the strength needed to be a contributor.

That's it for the 2016 class that Scott had anything to do with.

2017

2* TE James Brown. 6'4" 200-210 LBs ( He will never play under Pruitt might as well transfer now)

5.5 rated 3* W/R Jaquez Jones. 5'11" 164 Lbs ( Like Williams and Byrd, short, skinny, fast but can't get off the LOS and drops balls that hit him in the hands)

2018

3* TE Jacob Warren 6'6" 210 LBS ( Knoxville Tennessee. His father was a former UT player and he was a Legacy offer that Pruitt honored as he needs the support of Former UT Players in going forward)

Now those are the only players that I could find that Scott recruited or aided in recruiting. If there were others, there were so many involved that the recruiter is listed as N/A.

I said that what he did for Miami was what he did for Miami. I only know what I saw at UT and his lack of "Coaching 'em up" as far as TEs has left UT with 4 TEs on the roster under scholarship but the best one is a Walk-on. The others are too small and too slow.

He was elevated to OC last season, a position that was WAY over his head.

If he works out for you, hoo-ray.

Pruitt worked with Rumpf in the past and seems to like his coaching ability. With Tracy Rocker, Kevin Sherrer, Robert Gillespie, Terry Fair, Robert Niedermeier, Will Friend, Tyson Helton and of course, the Big Bald One himself, Jeremy Pruitt, recruiting is under control even if Rumpf isn't that great. Gillespie is still well known and respected in Florida isn't he?

What happens this year as far as recruiting is all icing on the cake considering the absolute disaster left after Lyle's firing and the insanity that followed until Fulmer was hired as A/D to bring in some sanity to the Athletic Department and to find a coach worthy of UT that would take the job.

And he did.

Listen, I am tired. I have said all that I intend to on the subject.. I was just trying to have a little back and forth fun during the down time. That's all. The damned OP was tongue in cheek. But there doesn't seem to be any jocularity to be found here. Everyone seems to have perpetual red-ass and a chip on their shoulder. So damned serious about even the most trivial of things.

If this were Facebook, I'd hit the delete button and erase the entire thread and be done with it.

Every Tennessee fan that continues to push the “Schiano knew about child rape” so they can justify their stupid over reactive protests deserves every bad thing that comes their way. If Schiano knew anything he would have been charged. To continue pushing this moral outrage and trying to publicly humiliate a guy by falsely associating him with one of the most evil acts on the planet makes any of you continuing this a giant piece of shit. You didn’t get Gruden or some other big name hire so you lost your minds, overreacted and latched onto a false rumor in order to try and spin how foolish your fan base is. You lost a coach who has actually built a program, has NFL experience, and took a huge black eye nationally as every coach wouldn’t come near your program as Fulmer ran off every viable candidate that came along after. But you gained a head coach with zero head coaching experience. Nice job, after every loss you can donate to all those child abuse centers the Big Orange suddenly and sincerely made a priority in their lives.

You probably should delete the thread, because you look stupid. It's also the 2nd time you have now misspelled one of your own coaches names wrong. It's Rumph not Rumpf! Not only that but you didn't get a coach until about your 10th try and Fat Phil just hired somebody he can control so that he can try and coach the football program. I'm surprised Fat Phil just didn't go ahead and hire himself as the head coach.

Good Lord. Clutch at straws much?

Accept that your team, school and state are shit. You might be able to find some peace.

Not to mention he is one of the best recruiters on Urban’s staff

You are never going to get highly rated players out of Florida if your an assistant at Tennessee. There are 3 major schools(Miami, UF, and FSU) that aren't going to let many players out of the state. So if your going to put an assistant from UT in the state of Florida to recruit you take what you can get because even the 2nd level players in Florida are much better than the garbage players in Tennessee. So bottom line you don't judge Larry Scott on his recruiting during his tenure at UT. Most people understand this except uninformed UT fans.
