It has been suffering a precipitous drop off over the last several years with no end in sight. All the while the West has seen unprecedented success with the bulk of their teams. Hell..even Ole Miss is semi-relevant again! smdh

If we split with LSU and Arky to win the division twice in a row, it would still be really impressive though. 13-3 in the SEC is still impressive, even if we've had a very favorable schedule.

Seriously doubt Kentucky is beating UGa and UT the last 2 games. But heck, if they do, then if we lose once they are co-champs of the division, and if we lose twice, they get to get flogged by Bama again.

The very sad part is, only Kentucky has managed to beat a West team so far this year from the East. That's just plain pathetic and we better not go 0-2 on our matchups against them. Something has to change here cause it's going on nearly a full decade since the East was reliably competing with the West.

It's possible this has a lot to do with Saban at bammer. Every West team knows they must play him each and every year and the road to the SEC championship goes through him. East schools judge their chances in a year on whether they have to dodge Alabama or not, plus the one other really good team they generally field each year, be it ATM, LSU, or whoever. You don't improve yourself as a team by playing cupcakes like Tennessee each and every week.

I know this may sound crazy, but Appleby would probably be better suited to be competitive against BAMA because of his deep ball accuracy and mobility.

Because of his physical limitations, I honestly fear for LDR's health against the athletes he will see on BAMA's defense.

The drop-off may be due to the crackdown on over-signing, and year-to-year scholarship abuse. The SEC used to be rampant over-signers, and were noted for employing ruthless "roster management" strategies.

You guys from the ACC and FSU keep saying this. Yet offer very little to support the matter. Have the rankings between the SEC West and the rest of the divisions/conferences shrunk over time? I think not. We had this discussion a few weeks ago, and at that time we noted that one ranking showed the SEC West over the second place division by a bigger margin than the second place division and the bottom division of the power five conferences. That was true a few weeks ago. It is still true today. And it was true last year. And the year before that.

Do we need to go on?

Now, this is only one ranking and we can certainly entertain other rankings that show something different. If you can find them. But I do not believe any one of them will show that the difference between the SEC West and the rest of college football has materially shrunk.
