SEC Network...NOW!!!!

Busby was such a stiff. How in there world did FSU get stuck with him at qb? The roster is just loaded everywhere else.

2 nights ago they had on the 95 UF/UT game in the Swamp where UT was up by 30-14 and then we scored like 48 unanswered points. It was so much fun watching Wuerrfel throw to Ike, Reidel and Doering

The entire game is different now.

Our team was wearing “Championship” hats with two minutes to go in the game...lol...forgot about that...

Wuerffel was the best ever...sorry Tebow...there was nobody else like Wuerff...

Hard to argue but I would take Tebow if I’m starting a team because he can beat you in different ways. He’s one of the best runners in SEC history, certainly one of the best short yardage and goal line backs in SEC history, he can kill you on the perimeter with the option, and he put up comparable passing numbers to Wuerffel and Manning. That’s why it’s hard for me to completely discount what he could have become in the NFL if McDaniels didn’t get himself fired or if Tebow found someone to commit to his style like Seattle committed to Russ Wilson. In the one instance where a team was forced to commit to him, he was uneven but made a bunch of plays, a lot of them to win games.

He had players everywhere, but so did Wuerffel.

Wuerff was tough as nails. You watch those hits he kept taking in that game (and in Tallahassee) and getting up time after time...it was like a Rocky movie. If you game him time, he would pick any defense apart...and the way he could read pre-snap defensive looks and check off at the line, it was like he was mind melding with Steve.

It is so bizarre that neither Wuerff nor Tebow made it in the NFL. sadgator will never understand that...

There’s plenty of critique about guys talents whether its arm talent or head game stuff. But nfl teams for decades have been very picky about adjusting their offenses to the QBs they draft. Tebow was not a prostyle pocket guy. When he had that year of making the playoffs just adding a read option wrinkle to the playbook opened up McGahee to start putting up bigger numbers. Peyton Manning, Cam Newton just off the top of my head are guys the nfl teams they were on adjusted to them. I believe that’s why Charlie Ward went to the NBA. The guy could have easily been a Randall Cunningham type of QB with his wheels. I think he knew no one was going to adjust to him so go make a living in a sport he loves. Theres a lot more politics in nfl than people care to realize when it comes to personnel.

All of that is probably true, but Tebow had opportunities to work with both Chip Kelly and Bill Belichick.

If neither one of those guys could figure out a way to make it work for him (and both of those guys are out of the box thinkers), it had to be something more.

Perhaps it is the elevated talent level across the whole league, but sadgator will never understand what works and what doesn’t in the NFL.

1966 Spurrier Heisman
1996 Wuerffel Heisman
2007 Tebow Heisman

None of them became NFL stars, but all of them became millionaire's anyway.
Their lack of NFL QB success is the fault of the NFL, not of their obvious skills as QB's.

In just 16 NFL starts, Tebow left with both Bronco Team Records, and NFL regular season and playoff records. A winning record, a positive TD/Int ratio, and 1,000+ rushing yards.
The No Fun League is what it is and I don't bother with watching it anymore....

It’s hard for me to pick between Tebow and Wuerffel. Tebow was harder to defend against though for opposing defense because you had to account for his running ability

While neither one of them could draw up their own plays in the dirt, or kick a 40 yard FG to win a game, or become a HoF & NC Gator coach... ;)

The Gators were lucky that Steve didn't decide to be a baseball pitcher or a B-Ball PG...

Danny had amazing accuracy. I mean, he had NO arm, everything he threw was a rainbow. Yet, where other guys would have gotten picked all the time, DW put it where only his guy could get it.

It was a good thing too. He had to throw it early and let it wander downfield before 3 guys crushed him to the ground. Never understood why we could have 23 stars worth of Olinemen across the line and still be unable to block anybody. Then we would play somebody like Miss State and they would have 2 star Dlinemen converted to Oline who would just roadgrader our Dline. One of the reasons I don't get excited about recruiting stars now. Give me a 15 star Oline that is a wall over a 25 star line that is a sieve any day.

Tebow, OTOH, never had a ton of accuracy. Adequate for college but not near enough for the pros. He benefited from his power run game. I mean, how many guys can run play action out of an empty backfield? Or have a power run game with 5 wides on the field? We forced teams to choose whether to guard WR's with linebackers or go nickel and watch Tebow run all over you. It is a crime what Adazzio did as OC Tebow's senior year.

Tebow...Wuerff...both GOATs in their era.

If Steve Spurrier would have returned to coach UF in 2002, Jabar Gaffney would have stayed for his Junior season, and Spurs would have parted ways with Jon Hoke while hiring Charlie Strong or even John Thompson...Rex Grossman would have won a Heisman and Natty.

As much as I would like to believe this, that Miami team was loaded and bloodthirsty.

1997 at LSU on now.

I was at that game in the Swamp and it was a complete physical demolition. Certainly I would have liked our chances without spurrier a lot better than Zook.
