He wanted NO PART of the S.E.C. where 13/14 teams are Bowl Eligible and 6 teams are ranked including #’s 1, 3 and 9. The Big 12 had an Easy Road for him with 4 teams with losing records BUT, The PAC. 12 is a JOKE! 6 teams with a LOSING RECORD, Oregon is 10-2, Utah is 9-3 and EVERBODY ELSE had 4 or mor losses including the 6 teams with 7 or more losses. More $$$, Easier schedule and Conference,

Smart Man and a CHICKEN!

And burning those recruits on his team and he was about to sign. I here the 4 who left Oklahoma’s 2022 Class May follow him to S.C.

Yep. He just wanted nothing to do with the SEC. He ran for the hills. There were even rumors he wasn’t happy about OU joining the SEC. He’s just trying to find the least resistance and easiest place to win at.

Hello guys, newbie here. Florida fan indeed. And yes this is my first post (lol). But yes Riley left OU hanging knowing what was in the cards for him and the Sooners. The thing about it is that OU AD Joe Castiglione and the school administration there never told Riley about their eventual move to the SEC. But when he found out, I believe that's when he started looking for greener pasture elsewhere. He's got it in L.A.

Welcome to the fray.

Just read on another board that Riley's contract is for $110 million (number of years unknown), plus USC is buying his 2 Oklahoma homes for $500000 each in lieu of a $1 million bonus, are giving him a $6 million allowance to buy a home in L.A., plus 24/7 use of a private jet for he and his family.

Call me chicken every day for that kind of deal.

Guy made a good business decision and will kill it. I do find it funny when ppl characterize the action to match their preconceived notions. Personally don't care - good for him. USC is a cherry job - he's making more money - he'll probably win a natty there.

I'm sure anyone in this thread, if anyone was offered more money at a better job would turn it down, this way they could show their detractors (who they don't give a crap about) that they could succeed dispite not making smart moves. lmao only on the internet does this kind of insanity exist.

He’s married and a multi-millionaire so, I guess she approved the move. What about the kids and families he told he would be at Oklahoma for years to come to take care of their little Junior?

Like most sales people - none of us mean any of that lol. That's why he can get the $$, still win, get the players and still sleep soundly at night.

A Natty won't be easy with a 12 team field and at least 3 games to win. My guess is one of the SEC teams comes out on top most times with a setup like that.

Considering we will probably have 3-4 teams most years, that does seem likely.

Dude should have went on and took the LSU job. The past 3 coaches they have hired have won Natty's. 1 the GOAT. The other 2 bums.

The last coach to win at USC in the modern era was a Super Bowl winning coach. That's what it takes at SC. An elite. It takes a guy with a pulse at LSU.

Brian Kelly came out better IMO. Time will tell.

Riley took a page out of Bobby Bowden's "Coaching Success" book. Join an inferior conference, dominate the underlings, have an undefeated or 1-loss season and play for championships.

Run away from the nation's best teams until your last game and hope for a lucky win.
Sad!

In all honesty, the SEC did this to themselves, why on earth would Roley want to take OU to the SEC? That conference is going to be so hard to win and even if you win you will more than like have a loss or two. Why not just go to USC which has the same resources as OU if not better and it's way easier. I think you will see this from a lot more coaches moving forward. Go to the SEC and probably get fired or go somewhere else, make similar money and always be in the playoff. Smart move by him

Anyone anytime anywhere. Fsu played the toughest OOC schedule for years. Never took UF or Miami off the schedule. Played all the top teams as well. The ACC was not very good at the time tho so I will give you that.

It’s all about the money. There isn’t a lot of schools outside the SEC schools that can give Riley the amount of money he just got and USC happens to be one of those schools. Riley ran from the SEC and Kelly ran to the SEC. I think you will see some of both. I think it is obvious they both saw they weren’t winning a national title where they were at so that played into their decisions.

Hopefully he's no more successful at USC as Kelly was at Notre Dame.

Something always bugged me about USC.....what was it again....oh wait now I remember. During the time of their 2003 and 2004 championships the fans made bammers look super meek and humble in comparison.

It was so bad that you could rarely have a normal conversation about anything concerning football. It wasn't just a few fans like that.....it was almost everyone I talked to.

I always found it interesting that FSU played schedule by Charmin all those years plus UF and UM, while UF played the Bataan Death March of the SEC plus FSU but got beaten up because we "didn't go out of state".

Yea when fsu is really good your schedule becomes extremely difficult. When you guys are good it's our 2nd big game of the season usually. It hurts you more when we are good than if you guys are good for us. Honestly if we never had to leave the state, I wouldn't either, it's smart
