HOTG8R called out in another thread that Muschamp screamed and belittled players and it left the players defeated. That's not surprising to hear, since we saw it every Saturday when any player not named Jeff Driskel made a mistake. In any event, the comment reminded me of a few other tidbits that have come up on this site: a player saying guys were afraid to ask questions under the old staff, an insider who said Champ laid into kids too much, the anonymous player parting shots where the player came across as psychologically weak (e.g., he felt like there was pressure when we were picked to finish 4th in the East last year).
It starts to paint a picture of the risk adverse culture Muschamp created, where making a mistake was the gravest sin and where he lacked the intelligence and/or emotional maturity to not explode in the face of mistakes. Kids were walking on eggshells and their on-field performance and development were hindered as a result.
I personally believe we need to go into 2015 with low expectations and hope to be surprised. But if there is a scenario that leads to a remarkable turnaround, I believe it will come from JMac changing the culture and rebuilding the team psyche.
