I see we got a QB from Ohio State I guess to be there in case AR-15 tries to dance in his hotel room again. What positions do you think we need to address in the portal? We need to get some open space playmakers on the team.

We NEED playmakers at WR

Billy will focus on OL

Billy and I don’t really see eye to eye on offensive philosophy

Why not focus on the OL? We haven't been exactly all that great on that front over the last 3-4 years now. LaMichael Perine was a potential 1300-yd rusher yet got ZERO blocking from Stone Forsyth and that sad sack bunch of front. And in football, the battle is won in the trenches. So yes, Billy Boy is doing exactly what a Saban or Smart would usually do. It all starts up front.

Didn’t say we shouldn’t focus on the OL.

i stated we have a strong need for offensive playmakers, which we do.

I then stated Billy was going to focus on the OL, which he is.

The two statements can both be true, no?

I see your point, but you have to protect your QB and run interference for your backs to spring loose. Henceforth, the OL is mandatory. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the Kyle Pitts/Treveon Grimes/Jacob Copeland/Van Jefferson WR corps we had just last year reincarnated. But we gotta make sure we got hogs upfront who can give our QB time to get the ball to them.

I would much rather he build to what he needs, which is OL, which also hasn’t really existed here since Meyer.

He wants to run so he certainly needs his focus to be OL. I would much rather he ignore playmakers if they aren’t the centerpiece of his O than be Chump and talk about power running and them recruit 2 OL in 2 classes.

Yes, feels a little like unchartered territory.

Chump inherited a Meyer roster.

Mac inherited Chump’s elite defense.

Mullen inherited Trask.

Well, Billy inherits, well, not much.
This is all too true. He definitely has his work cut out. But with his energy I think he’s going to be fine.

Here's a quality WR who is in the portal, with Texas & Alabama already showing interest. I read where our new WR coach has reached out to him as well. Looks like a good one.

Oh, he is very good. But pretty much has an offer from everyone. Will likely seek an offense that is more open. We will see

Nick,

Hope you are correct.

Fine in the long term - 2 or 3 seasons' or fine for next season ?

Many posters have pointed out that until we get through spring practice, we have no idea how this team will shape up.

I agree with them. Therefor I will not make any predictions about next season's wins & losses.

We lack the full on the field coaching staff; have not seen the gains & losses from the portal, & any additions from NSD.

I am not holding my breath on new commits from NSD - as we saw with top level players making commits at the UA game; not enough time to build relationships with them or probably any other quality, unsigned recruits.

Portal pickups, especially those with only one year of eligibility remaining, are a mixed bag. No way to know how they will work out.

IMO, re-entry of our players from the portal is the quickest & most effective way to get good players.

Two players - Summerall & Zanders - have seemingly removed themselves from the portal & returned.

Getting Mohamoud Diabate to return would be great.

Don 't know what to think about Emory Jones since I have no idea what type of offense we will run.

Emory has stuck around & waited his turn; hope Napier can fit him in; would love to see him shine in a new offense.

If that's not possible, I hope that he, like Felipe Franks, finds the right team to transfer to.

I hope Emory isn't crazy enough to stay here.

Guess Billy didnt want this Cajun
Tebow,

Billy went after the UGA CB instead. Since Billy recruited & coached the ULL player we have to hope he knows who was the better player.

"...The Florida Gators have landed Georgia transfer cornerback Jalen Kimber, one of the nation's top cornerback prospects in 2020 and a projected starter (?) for the Bulldogs."

Makes you wonder why players transfer.

Like TE Kemore Gamble - transfer to UCF, who started at TE in all 12 games this year & was a projected starter for next year.

Just saw on another thread that 5 star OLB Malik Bryant from Orlando (played for Orlando Jones and then IMG Academy this past year), 0.9895, 4'2", 235, class of 2023, has been raving about his visit to UF and has us in his final group with Alabama & Georgia, and possibly Miami and UCF. This is the type of player Napier needs to be getting.
