Big pick up here at a position of need. One of the more highly sought after transfer portal players in the country. Probably the most sought after transfer portal olineman in the country.

We can use the big uglies for sure!! Looks like a solid pickup. He can step right into a starting role.

Paco,

Will he play guard or tackle ?

Easy to see why he was so highly regarded -

"...Across 37 games and 1,146 pass-blocking snaps, Torrence has yet to allow a sack in his career, according to Pro Football Focus."

Can't take credit for this quote, but loved it !

"...6-5, 355 and already knows the system. Hopefully, he’ll be a leader and help instill some pride and fight in the False Start Superstars we’ve had to suffer with the last few years."

I like everything the new coaching staff is doing so far. I'm causiously optimistic they flip 1-2 highly rated guys on signing day.

Jeff - I think he will play guard or tackle. :):) He's a very big man and to me it will all depend on his foot speed and lateral movement and whether the coaches feel he can handle the speed rushers in the SEC. That's a different animal than what he saw in the Sun Belt Conference.

Ocala,

You got that right !

Speed rushers in the SEC - are a totally different animal !

We haven't had a SEC 1st Team OT since Phil Trautwein in 2008 !

Got curious & looked it up. Gators have only had two All SEC OL - NONE on the 1st team - in the last 11 years - 2011 - 2021.

Now that we have 2 OL Coaches; we should do better; the bar is set so low, we can't do much worse !

Martez Ivy - 2nd team OT - 2017 & 2018; 2nd team OG - 2016

Last 5* OL UF has recruited & our 2nd 3 time All SEC OL; hoping Billy can change that !

Max Garcia - 2nd team Center - 2014

Mike Pouncey - 2nd team Center - 2010
Maurkice Pouncey - 1st team Center - 2009
Mike Pouncey - 2nd team OG - 2009
Mike Pouncey - 2nd team OG - 2008

Phil Trautwein - 1st team OT - 2008 - current OL Coach Penn State Nittany Lions

Jim Tartt - 2nd team OG - 2007
Carlton Medder - 2nd team OT - 2007
Steve Ressler - 1st team Center - 2006
Phil Trautwein - 2nd team OT - 2006

Degory_tie.jpg

Mike Degory - 6'6", 304 lbs - 1st team Center - 2005, 2nd team Center - 2003 & 2004

Gators' only other 3 time All SEC OL - He has the "look !"

A four-year starter at center who started
all 50 games of his college career,
which is tied for the best in Florida football history and third-highest in the history of the Southeastern Conference.

Mo Mitchell - 2nd team OG - 2004

Max Starks - 1st team OT - 2003

Shannon Snell - 2nd team OG -2002
Zac Zedalis - 1st team Center - 2001; AP called him an OG

Mike Pearson - 1st team OT - 2001

Kenyatta Walker - 1st team OT - 2000 & 2nd team OT - 1999

Mike Pearson - 2nd team - OT - 2000

SOS, the Head Ball Coach in 2000; believed in OL who could pass block !

IMO, we won't know what position Torrence will play until conclusion of Spring Practice.

GBO,

Who would you pick for the Flips ?

My Picks for Flips - Not holding my breath; but would take any of these 5 players

SHEMAR STEWART | DL | 5-STAR- from S Fl; some past contact; he knows who we are; we need DL help

Opa Locka, Fl

HAROLD PERKINS | LB | 5-STAR-made OV Jan 14; who knows

Cypress, Tx

JACOBY MATHEWS | S | 4-STAR - blew off OV Jan 14; not looking good

Ponchatoula, La

TREVONTE’ CITIZEN | RB | 4-STAR - still coming for OV Jan 21 ?

Lake Charles, La

CHRISTEN MILLER | DL | 4-STAR - no contact with Gators that I know of, but we need DL help

Ellenwood, Ga

A lot of smoke out there for current Auburn commit - Caden Story...4 start DL...ranked 222 overall by 247's composite so he's a legit dude.

There's just much energy out there recruiting I almost think we land Perkins +1...though we coudl end up with none of the above haha!

Think we have a good chance with Story. Not sure about Perkins and Matthew’s but this staff is taking their shot. More than what I can say for the previous staff

I like our chances with all three, Paco. At least we are in the game. It sounds as If Corey Raymond will be making the Mathews visit. So that is promising. And yes, Perkins is a wild card but we seemed to have hit a home run on his visit and I believe we did well on the NIL fo him. But this does sound more like above board bidding wars now which is weird..lol. Regarding Story, he could certainly play right away with some strong coaching to help lift his NFL chances..so who knows how this will unfold. Exciting times, though.

Yeah maybe we don't get Perkins...it just feels like there's 2 more highly rated guys we're going to land on signing day. Recruiting is fun again haha!
