Thinking about the current Gators' roster and how many key players are athletes from outside the state has me wondering. How many great Gator teams (not saying this current group is "great"....yet) were led by non Florida athletes?

Who are the key players from this team?

- Morrison (IL)
- Bullard (NC)
- VH3 (FL)
- Davis (GA)
- McCalister (NC)
- Grier (NC)
- Thurman (DE.. I think)

Only one of the above players are from Florida.

Sure, the overwhelming group of guys are from Florida, as it should be. I remember a thread a few weeks ago about J Davis where I commented he reminds me of some of the great UF LBs from the late 90s. Someone commented we need more South GA kids. So much of the success of this team is made up of players from NC and GA. Throw in the above guys plus kids from GA like D Robinson and Riles and the importance of non Florida athletes is apparent.

I don't remember a previous "great" UF team that had so many non Florida athletes. The Meyer/ Zook Gators did have several, Harvin (VA), Spikes (NC), Hernandez (CT), Dunlap (SC), Leak (NC), Moss (Texas), Harvey (MD), Siler (GA.... I think), Crowder (GA).

I guess my point in all this is, if we were ever going to follow the Harbaugh idea of setting up Florida camps outside the state of Florida, forget Texas, California, Ohio, and maybe even Georgia, give me North Carolina all day long.
