Meyer

Urban is a winner, period. Detracting from that is that he lies, he cops cocky ass, smug attitude, and he recruits and maintains some of the thuggiest of thugs. Of course, most coaches do these things, but Urban wins more because he does these things better than essentially all.

Saban most likely lies alot. He can definitely be cocky and smug. But, his players seem more well rounded, better spoken, and more mature individuals and thereby much less thuggish as compared to other coaches' rosters and especially compared to Urban's historical recruits.

I don't think he can win unless he has a significant talent advantage. Recruiters win in college, tacticians win in the pros. Mullen is the guy who would be the better NFL coach. Please nobody tell him that.

I have long thought he couldn’t do the NFL, because like Saban, recruiting is what has makes him elite. However, he is the BEST CEO in all of football and year in and year out builds the best staffs. Still not sure he could do the NFL and likely lacks the proper connections, but I can’t completely weite him off because he has some skills that could lead to him being successful there

Urban would win at Notre Dame easily. I would agree that I don’t see him as an NFL coach.

He’ll be at ND in 2 years.

He wouldn't be a fit at Notre Dame even if he could coach there. They have stringent academic standards that they will not allow to become secondary to athletic achievements. Florida and Ohio State are great academic institutions in their own right, but they have let some questionable kids in during Urbans tenure.

Notre Dame alums are very smug about their high moral code. I think Urban is done. He might become the athletic director at Ohio State once Gene Smith retires. He would do well in that role as he is a CEO type of individual.

It's hard to predict which college coaches will transition well to the pros. Saban, Spurs and Chip Kelly all flopped despite being good college coaches. On the other hand Pete Carroll seems to be doing OK.

Urban won’t ever coach at Power Five level again. No need. Nothing left to prove. Money in the bank. Too much public exposure and criticism, and he doesn’t need that. He’ll resurface in broadcasting, team consulting/admin, or lower level coaching, but sadgator honestly thinks he’s done.

Guy has had a great run...great coach...say what you will but the guy is a winner...loved when he was at FL.

I was never more terrified of UF than when Meyer was there. Thank god Cam got sticky fingers otherwise UF would have been Bama. You guys would probably have 2 more titles

"Quality control coach" for bama

The Bucs aren't that dumb. Hell, the JAGS aren't that dumb.

Brian Kelly might be a good pro coach. Have talked to several people who have worked under him or against him and his passing scheme is thought by those in football to be one of the best anywhere.

If ND lost their coach a year or two from now I bet he would go there but no way he does it if Kelly leaves now.

Whole different game...front offices have a lot of control and a great college coaches almost have complete control...they can demand it at that level for some reason...reason why Saban and many others come and stay in college. They are good at running these programs but in the NFL the GM, owners and others have as much power as the coach.

If I was a college coach I would NEVER go to the NFL. I know that it's all amount ego but if you win 9-11 games a year in college they will build you a statue and you'll be a king. Never have understood why these guys don't just stay where they have it made.

Its an ego thing as you are going against the best and you don't have the recruiting advantage the top ones get in college. I bet if Saban wins this year he might leave in a year or so as I am sure it eats him up a little he didn't have success there. He would probably wait until he saw an opening that had a good QB there however.

Recruiting is a huge PITA, though. You having to fly around the country, kissing the asses of high school kids, and telling them that they are awesome and dealing with their egos. I would see the lack of having to deal with recruiting as a plus.

That is why Billy Donovan and Spurrier initially tried the pro route.

I also believe you can draw retirement from the NFL with just 3 years in. Other factors at play here too
