I think he honestly believes he can win with any qb (claireabelle comment), and that qb needs to be his type of guy. We are not Alabama. You need a playmaker at qb position regardless of whether the kid is immature or isnt a coaches son like Del Rio.
You can hear it in the way he's talked about Del Rio and in the way he talked about Grier. Mac has been so much more complimentary of Del Rio than he was Grier, despite complete opposite results on the field.
I don't agree with everything Grier said and did, but I also don't think Mac put aside his ego and failed to realize this was a young college kid who was immensely talented and just needed some guidance.
Lamar Jackson really liked Florida early on and we put him on the back burner the whole way. I bet Lamar wouldn't even have been starting for this year, because he's not a Mac guy. That's a scary thought, that we have a coach who would forego putting talent on the field for his guy.
