I don't see where an in-state game makes a difference? Just politics, IMO.
Wait till the boosters start saying they will wait and send in a check next year since there's no season this year. That's when the seasons will magically come back.
espn is so funny watching them squirm in their seats trying to care about PC agendas (like COVID-19 protocols) but realizing no CFB means they will lose jobs and TV revenues. It's quite hilarious and ironic all in one.
They will be desperate for content. Then the young activists will get in the producer's ear and pitch them on MORE shows on how politics and sports intersect. Producers will say screw it, we need content.

Exactly, they painted themselves in a corner by hiring fools and now fools must pretend to care about sports again. They will have to brag on Ole Miss when they broadcast their games just like they would if they were broadcasting a Boston College vs Syracuse game.
Pac-12 says conference only games this season. Yesterday Big 10 said it hadn't even decided if it would have fall sports yet, but if so, it would be conference only as well.

So Bama vs USC is dead. At one point we were trying to set up vs TCU as a backup...wonder if that's still an option.

espn has painted themselves so far in the corner promoting the political side of this virus that they have no power to do anything. Once the most influential sports media network in the world (that basically forced the NCAA to have a playoff) are now begging for scraps from the monster they created.
Next year or so there will be a big opportunity created for a new sports network that focuses ONLY on sports.
FOX has an opportunity if they can keep their panties unwadded. Even NBC has done a better job of promoting sports than espn?
What will be interesting to me is what happens to contracts power 5 teams have with non conference. If you have a major power 5 team with a contract to play x small non conference team and pay them say 2 mil which that little team needs desperately, does the major team just get to cancel that and say sorry when they are playing conference games? I see legal fights and/or lots of negotiating.
They need to pay those schools, IMO. They reneged on a deal and they are still playing football. They make 50 million instead of 52 million this year.
So Ohio st wouldn't be able to play Ohio U but could play Rutgers in NJ? Force majeure my ass. I'd like to listen to that justification in court.
