Listening to the State of the Onion?

Interesting thought.

Anti-monopoly sentiment is a good thing and maybe something this administration has done well;

I’m for buy American. If the government is going to subsidize infrastructure to the extent it does, then American business should benefit up and down the contractual chain.

Counterpoint on buy American. I would retort that, as far as driving up costs on government construction, I work in the area and budgets are set, contractors can bid on them or not.

And it’s generally a bad sign when the best policy statement you can find to back up your position in 2023 is from Harry Truman.

If there were any such thing as a free market, the arguments might make sense, but don’t kid yourself, the global economies are set to music, it’s just a matter of who gets to benefit from government funding.

Sleepy Joe seems to forget Trump was vilified for Chinese tariffs. The Democrats are rats.

Biden is an idiot. We spend a ton on federal projects but it’ll never be enough to really change the American industrial sector. It’s more like caving to unions to force federal projects to buy from only one country. And who pays for federal projects? I mean, who really pays?

Trump tried the bigger picture approach - he strengthened US producers with less regulation and a lower taxes.

The answer is lift the suffocation of big gov’t and let American efficiency compete. Even the playing field against countries that cheat the free market concept with tariffs.

The economy is much more global than it ever has been, there are no easy or quick fixes. Neither approach is going to produce quick returns.

What has Biden done to fight monopolies?

I guess I missed those policy points.

Were you spouting this conclusory nonsense when it was your boy Trump advocating for buy American?

And what do you mean “level the playing field?” You mean like retaliatory tariffs, subsidies and buy American policies?

Man you are walking around blind without a cane aren’t you?

Here’s a good look at it. I’m no Biden apologist. I recognize he’s not running the country, but as I have stated on other threads, I think the people who are (I think Blinken and Sullivan), are not doing a terrible job, given the conditions.

Anti-trust is one area where there seems to have been legit concentrated effort. And Lina Khan is an effective advocate for the effort.

I would bet that Ghost didn’t even know that Trump advocated for protectionist policies, including buy American.

No I was having a normal conversation and I apparently triggered a TDS patient.

If you’d read and think instead of getting emotional I sort of called out both strategies. Nothing can really stop China from artificially lowering prices.

And Trump didn’t nail it, but it’s a tough issue and what he did was certainly going to reap better rewards than forcing all federal projects into a limited supply base. Do you know what suppliers do with prices when they know there’s less competition? You have to understand that making regulations like this is tantamount to a federal stimulus. It’s spending our dollars to artificially support a part of the economy. Do you think the feds throwing money at industry creates long term prosperity?

Trump isn’t my boy, but his policies were much more substance than what Biden threw out today. And he went a little further than just buy American, he did what he could to try to even the playing field. Pat Biden on the back, but let’s not act like he’s really interested in changing things.

He did, but that was only part of a bigger strategy.

You’re way too horny over one specific talking point.

Take a deep breath and let’s have an adult conversation about economic policy.

Who’s talking to you? What is this your burner account lol.

Lol. Anyway, from that article:

This new focus reflects the influence of recent economic research showing that countless labor markets have become dominated by a handful of employers. Such concentration is partly the result of mergers and partly the result of the natural growth of large businesses.

I think @bradleygator just called me a dummy in response to @fatman76, then he thought you were fatman, and told you (fatman) that he thought you (navi) was really ghost.

The only poster that ITT that's not talking to him LOL

Did I mention we have the dumbest trolls on the internet?
I think you’re fat man because he suddenly appeared on this thread responding to me, calling you a moron. Whatever, if there’s two morons, one moron, what’s the difference. If your ego is so fragile that you’re out here on the free gator political message boards making cheerleading dummy accounts, that’s something you’ll have to work out with yourself.

Fatty is pretty smart. I'd tread lightly. ;)See the thing is, none of us here walk lockstep with the GOP. We don't even agree with each other! It's just better than the alternative. The sooner we can weed out the establishment RINOS, the better off this country will be. I'm tired of holding my nose and voting straight ticket. But the other side are full blown lunatics. I'm pleasantly surprise that other than your TDS, you are not as crazy as I thought you were. I'm not in love with Trump myself, but his policies were sound......that and he trolls the loons and their woke BS like no other. Finally, we have a brawler instead of a punching bag.

Washington DC is never going to enforce antitrust legislation that's been on the books for years. Smash and crash acquisitions are what's wrong with Big Tech and they are globalist tyrants.

Oh it does appear that I was calling fat man a moron and not ghost (in this instance). I concede that I have not read enough of fat man’s posts to conclusively state that he is a moron, so I reserve on that point. Ghost i do think is a moron but he has yet to state anything moronic on this thread (yet). I apologize for the confusion.

Yeah i ain’t worried about fatty. However I do generally respect the thinking on this board (except obviously Ghost). And I don’t dismiss anyone’s thoughts on things (except…).

I would bet that Ghost didn’t even know that Trump advocated for protectionist policies, including buy American.
First time I’ve ever heard Biden talk up anything American. Some might call that pandering for political gain. It was woven into everything Trump talked about from the beginning. And don’t get me started n the border.

Anyone catch the part about that corporate stock buybacks should be taxed? Seriously, are even his handlers village idiots? Does he even have one inkling why investors buy stocks? I could go deep in the rabbit hole about that statement but we have a bright class here, less one or two of the usual suspects. 😂

I could not watch. He makes me angry. He is THE BIGGEST LIAR that has EVER entered the oval office. And Bill Clinton appreciates not holding the title anymore
I did not watch. I had the sound on in the background while doing something else. For the laughs, although it was cringe worthy. His voice and delivery were surprising strong but the content was 90% lies and buffoonery.
