Who knows who else will enter portal. Grimes & Jefferson have worked out well !

We still have 4-5 schollies and Feb signing as well. The class isn't finished yet but once done, yep it'll be transfer time.

Comments from Dan Mullen following the end of Day 1 in the Early Signing Period

Mullen mostly dodged questions about whether he wanted to specifically target running backs or receivers going forward or whether he was upset Florida hasn't fared better at those positions, but he did note the class isn't final yet. And the transfer portal could be another avenue to add talent to those positions.

"Not just are we looking at high school signees, but you're looking at transfers coming in as well to fill the different gaps moving forward," Mullen
said. "I don't expect this to be the end of this recruiting class or new Gators, if you will, coming in here for us. I still think there's going to be some more coming."

The percentage of Blue Chips (4* & 5* players) who sign in the Early Signing period is increasing.

"...Sixty-five percent of prospects inked early in the 2018 cycle. That number jumped to 77 percent last year in Year 2 of the recruiting shift. A similar number of prospects are expected to ink from Dec. 18 to 20 this year. "

Haven't seen any figures on Blue Chips who sign on 1st day versus the rest of the period, but many of the top rated recruiting classes are already finished.

With Issiah Walker Jr signing his LOI, Gators appear to have signed 21 players.

While we had hopes for several additional highly rated targets, only 3 players actually "committed" to UF failed to sign today -

WR Leonard Manuel - 4* WR
ATH Marc Britt - 4* WR/ATH
OG Jovens Janvier - 3* OG

In the next day or so, we will learn the reason why these three commits didn't sign & the list of the top remaining players will become available.

It seemed that most of the quality Juco players signed today as well.

All in all, very few unsigned Blue Chips. Will Mullen hold these schollies for next year, or roll the dice on transfers.

Another question is whether or not Wardrick Wilson has solved his Visa problems & are we still on board with him ?

At least with a transfer, you can judge academic eligibility for admission to UF with a high degree of certainity & not waste a signing token on poor academics.

The blue chippers locked in at this point are well above 80% in reality probably. Many of them commit now and wait to announce it at those recruit games. Not sure if we have some waiting to do that or not.

Fever,

Good points !

Agree !

Would be great if we had a few locked away like that.

Henry Parrish, 4* RB & Xzavier Henderson 4* WR, both from Miami Columbus, & Avantae Williams, 4* S from Deland all show as not having signed today, so who knows.

Gators may pull a rabbit or two out of their helmets !

True but 88% of our class is done. We have 29 total counters less the 2 transfers and 24 commits right now.

We have 3 spots left assuming we sign the last 3 in Feb...some haven't signed yet because we're making sure grades are in order.

Either way the class is about done so it's time to push on the last 3 or so spots for Feb.

GBO,

Good point !

Last year, we signed people who did not qualify & wasted counters. Hopefully, we have learned from our mistakes.

Twenty four committs including the three players who did not sign - two receivers & one OL.
WR Leonard Manuel - 4* WR
ATH Marc Britt - 4* WR/ATH
OG Jovens Janvier - 3* OG

Knowing what's up with them paramount as we work toward NSD & the remaining three spots.

For those spots, I still like
Henry Parrish, 4* RB
Xzavier Henderson 4* WR
Avantae Williams, 4* S

Unfortunately, Clemson (Xzavier) & many other teams like them as well ! LOL

Hasnt the plan for Manuel to sign been February the whole time anyway?

It will be a shock if Manuel qualifies academically, so even if he signs don't expect him to be on campus in the fall.

ocalaman,

I have been seeing the same thoughts out there also. Hope he gets it together by Feb; if, however, that does not happen, I hope Mullen learned from last year's mistakes & does not hope for a miracle & waste a counter by letting him sign !

Don't waste a counter - Go transfer !

Strong recruiting class. Things keep moving in the right direction. This will be the most filled out roster that we've had in years. Even under Meyer...he didn't always have the best numbers...but when you have 40 guys that will go to the NFL it doesn't matter as much lol

In a article I just found, the "plan" for all three was to sign in February. Have no clue as to why.

Florida Commits Signing In February
https://www.alligatorarmy.com/2019/...early-signing-day-2019-recruiting-open-thread
I don't follow it like I use to but doesn't one have to be graduated from their high school or juco and be ready to enroll the spring semester to sign early?

Example, if Leonard Manuel does not graduate until May he can't sign until February.

Some are confusing Early Signing with Early Enrolling.
I haven't looked up the details, but here's how I think it goes...

Recruits can sign their LOI on ESD or NSD.
To early enroll you must be HS graduated and qualify academically.
You don't have to be an early enrollee to sign a LOI on ESD.

Example -- UF has 22 ESD LOI's, but only 8-10 of them are projected to be early enrollees. So far, only 3 have already early enrolled.

Add Jahmyr Gibbs (RB) to that list. OV expected late January. Also remember, we PROBABLY have Wardrick Wilson joining us soon (OL). Shorter would be a great transfer, possibly as a TE as he has put on weight. But I expect him to be in high demand.(former 5*)

I also like to consider Cox as a new commit though he counts towards 2019. He will be a stud!!

The PWO from UCF, Mark Pitts (de-commit) 3 star should be another valuable addition. He got several offers from schools for a scholly and chose UF instead. Local kid.

WR Justin Shorter 6-4 217 HS - Fr 6-4 220 - Soph 6-4 235
2019 - 12 for 137 yds, 0 TD, 11.4 Yds/Rec
To iG, he looks like a possible WR/TE hybrid.

IF he transfers, he would have to sit-out in 2020.

Shorter knows he can’t get a waiver to play immediately so he is in no rush to make a decision. Simple as that.

Seems odd that players all over the country seem to be able to transfer and play immediately, but Cox had to sit out last year, Shorter will have to sit out 2020 and that lineman, Wilson, can't get a passport for over a year after playing high school ball in Miami. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but just don't understand how and why some things happen the way they do.

Swamp,

Assume he would have to sit out a year no matter where he goes.

When a 5* transfers, you have to wonder if he is not really that good or is he just tired of waiting for playing time ?

Yes, for sure. From what I heard the talent is there. I do trust the abilities of our coaches to get the most out of our guys. This is a strong point of our staff, developing them...
