2 reasons. 1 he was a Nick Saban coordinator, this time an offensive coordinator. After the failure of hiring a defensive coordinator to be our head coach in Muschamp, they made the same mistake but going with an OC in the hopes they could revive our dead offense at the time. 2, he DID basically revive CSU where we poached him from. They were something like a 2 win team and he turned them around in a year or two to a 10 win program. I don't remember exact numbers but he seemed to genuinely be the next Urban Meyer to many people. I had my doubts on that because I have seen what one stellar player or just catching lightning in a bottle for a team coming together can do for a coach, ala Strong at Louisville vaulting him to the Texas job he was in no way capable of. I would have wanted to see Butterteeth move to another smaller school and duplicate his success as Urban had been doing at every stop he made before anointing him the next great coach.

Our administration couldn't wait, but what have we learned. Well we DID learn from some of our mistakes after Muschamp, aka never hire another coach who has ZERO experience as a head coach. It never works out. What we ended up learning the hard way on Butterteeth is to stop going after Nick Saban coordinators, because THEY NEVER TRANSITION TO HEAD COACHING MATERIAL EITHER. Lane Kiffin could possibly be the one exception but only for the fact that he was a head coach before he ever got his coordinator job under Red Sabbath.

A questionable choice, but not totally crazy.

Some coaches can fail at one location, and be successful at another....and vice versa.

I know there's some bitterness from UF fans because of the time he was at UF, but that doesn't mean he cant be good at WSU.

He isn’t gonna do ‘well’ anywhere because she’s a garbage coach. Luck is the only thing that will save him. The man just got embarrassed in a bowl game by San Diego State. It damn sure can’t be his personality. AD’s and GM’s just recycle the same failed coaches over and over.

Since both Spurrier & Urban Meyer commented on the pressure they felt at Florida, you are probably correct.

Pressure not just from recruiting & winning on the field, but Spurrier grew to dislike the annual round of Spring / Summer Gator Gatherings too.

Too much intrusion into personal life perhaps ?
