Grier looked like the first prototypical QB we've had since Grossman. He made some Big League throws out there and was quick with his decisions. I think we give it one more week versus ECU but right now Grier has a sizeable lead IMHO.
I like Harris' ability to move around in the pocket and make things happen. If Harris does win the job, I think that's the reason why. Especially given our O-line.
Our pass protection is going to be a problem. New Mexico State had 5 sacks last year ... that's the lowest team total in the last 10 years of FBS. And yet they got a lot of pressure, even in a few situations where they rushed three. Hatler looked completely overwhelmed a couple of times - we need to get Mister Miyagi on the staff to help with Ivey's leg.
I LOVE the new staff's mentality. I could barely see through my tears of joy when we went for it on 4th down late in the 4th quarter of a blow-out. Our guys got more meaningful reps out of this game than in all the Muschamp-coached blow-outs we ever had.
Anzalone appears ready to step up to his 5-star status. What a game.
My concerns about our D-line remain. Not a lot of pressure from those guys, even when we had them in obvious passing situations (though this seemed to get better as the game went on). New Mexico State also ran the ball pretty well and seemed to give Rose some nice holes to work with.
Am I the only one who thinks Herndon looks really good every time he gets in the game? Tons of agility and elusiveness.
All in all, a great start to the JMac era. Sure it was steamrolling a cupcake but how many times over the past four years have we gotten to see that? Huge confidence builder for the team (particularly the QBs), lots of quality reps for our starters and backups, and no injuries. I'm not sure we could've hoped for anything more.
