It's like Christmas here

American Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 during the aftermath of the Watts riots as a specifically African-American holiday. Karenga said his goal was to "give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society."

And is there something negative about that? Noooo....

A passage attributed to Theodore Roosevelt holds that it is unpatriotic, servile, and morally treasonable to proclaim that there must be no criticism of the President.

However, I don't believe that he included lies, slander, or rampant media bias as fair criticism of anyone, including the President. -- iG

Are you talking about what James Mattis said about Trump.

People from Alabama?

Hmmmm....I was raised in Florida if that matters.

I bet I spend more time trying to help 15 to 35 year olds, black, white, male and female, than you do. I'd love to be wrong on that but I'd be surprised if I was.

Btw, I see no more racism here than I saw in Florida. I'm sure there are parts of Florida where it's different but in Lakeland...no moral high ground. You certainly see more mixed couples here and in Georgia than Lakeland and Polk County in general.

That's not to say that there isn't racism here. There certainly is but Alabama doesn't have a monopoly on it.

I originated from the panhandle. I have a few family members that live in LA...not Cali but the Dothan, Cottonwood...all that. The panhandle is probably honestly one of the "stereotypical " country southern places around. I've been in or around the Memphis area a large portion of my life. I've lived in North Bama for a brief moment.

North Bama from my viewpoint was the worst experience from straight out blatant racism. Lower Bama and the Fla panhandle wasn't unicorns and rainbows but I'd still was best overall as far as comfortable situations being a minority. Memphis as far as personal relationships was the least but it was the worst systemic wise.

I'll let you in on a secret though. A place with high interracial relationships may appear to be race friendly place on the surface but deep into the core its probably some of the worse as far as harmful words and actions. Back to North Bama. There are a lot of interracial relationships around Huntsville. That leads to some furious people.

Just to let you know some personal business, I've been in interracial relationships for what seems to be my whole early teen to adult life. The treatment can be tough coming from both sides.

Now I'll say this, remember Charles Barkley in his earlier years? Let's say around the 90's he came off as prejudice? Remember Charlie Strong saying back in the mid/late 00's saying the reason why he hadn't been offered a HC job in the SEC? Remember the color of their spouses? It was probably what they experienced from people. They more than likely experienced some strong bigotry due to that.

Now as far as Strong goes, I'm sure that played a little bit of a role but I don't think that was the main reason. He honestly has shown he isn't big school HC material.

Just to veer off subject for a brief moment. I lived in "the black part of town" in a little small town as a youth in panhandle Florida. Went to school, played little league, etc with a diverse group of kids. This Caucasian family moved in across the street. Had a little blonde hair blue eye daughter. That's when I first learned the story of Emmett Till. My grandmother saw the lust I had for the new neighbor. One morning she pulled me in the house by my ear and made me listen and read the story about Emmett. It still didn't change what I was attracted to. That's something you just have in your inner soul.

Edit: Let me say, my grandmother in the story above had zero problem with who I was attracted to. She just feared for me. It is what she experienced in her younger years. Some real life sad stories.

Notwithstanding the Emmett Till focus of your story (which sadgator finds fascinating and important)...it’s funny how, as dudes, we’re wired to be attracted to things that are different from ourselves...

when sadgator was a senior in high school a new dark skinned chick from Trinidad and Tobago moved into our town...she sat next to
sadgator in Trig and she was the most attractive person sadgator had ever laid eyes on...

from that moment on, sadgator had a deep appreciation and respect
for all women of color...

there’s probably some psychological studies out there on the science of attraction to other races...

either that or sadgator’s just a creepily horny guy...which could also certainly be the case...

sadgator’s latest crush is Megan Thee Stallion...imagine a 49 year old white dude driving his car around listening to “Captain Hook”...yep...that’s sadgator...
