Who would you want as coach?

I dont think he is their top target but i know hes on the list.

I for one, would hugely support him going to the cowboys. Hes got UF back in good status, hes done the college thing for awhile. Time to cut it with the big boys. Go Mullen go!!!

fsu939913,

Too much unfinished business !

Mullen hasn't -
Made it to CFP
Won SEC Championship
Won SEC East
Beaten the Dawgs;

Mullen needs to beat UGA/Kirby before he can even consider leaving !

Plus if he sticks around, he can add some more goose eggs to the SOW ! LOL

He can always come back and do this right? Go Mullen Go!!!

A man can dream.... Right?

I'd say that you're having nightmares over Dan, not dreams.

Hey, I heard that your new HC is bringing Tag back as his OC...
Has Tag selected the rest of his offensive staff yet? o_O

Nah. I think they really want Mike Norvell. He is the only guy they will offer the job to.

The Dallas Cowboys are lining up coaching candidates for interviews, with Marvin Lewis reportedly scheduled to meet with the team.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will interview with the Cowboys.

IMO, no way in hell do the Cowboys interview anyone who doesn't have NFL experience; probably NFL head coaching experience.

FSU numbers is stirring the pot. Lol I see Mullen at UF for a long time. He's building an absolute monster.

GatorNation,

Agree !

The better he builds it, the less work it takes to keep it going !

I'm betting, Nick Saban & Dabo Swinney didn't have to work anywhere near as hard as Dan Mullen did these last two years !

In reality it does not matter who the hell the Dallas Cowboys hire or for what amount. They will all fail.
As long as Jerry Jones owns the Cowboys or breathes oxygen within 250 miles of Arlington, the Cowboys will not win a Super Bowl or have any kind of meaningful, sustained success.

I hear McCarthy as the HBC and Lewis at as coordinator...McCarthy would be a good pick IMO

Saban might be the best ever but he's been in the game a long time. Dabo has been at Clemson for like 13-14 years and it took him a while but Clemson has never been much compared to the success UF/Bama has seen the previous 30 +...plus years. Dabo has built that brand and hats off to him. If we can lock the state of FL down in FL we have a gold mine but these days you can get kids from all over...although we want to own the talent at our door step. I'll admit...so far...at every turn Mullen is exceeding expectations and it's been a total turn around at one of the biggest programs in the country. It's exciting and amazing to watch.

Dan Mullen continues to make it sound like the Dallas Cowboys aren't a fit for him.

Dan Mullen notes power structure would be different in the NFL compared to college. He seems to like having the control of the program, mentions team building and recruiting.

Power in which he certainly wouldn't have in the same building as Jerry Jones. LOL

I don’t think Mullen leaves either... but I would like to know hypothetical/realistic options to replace him. Ready set go!!!

Gators 88,

Just as Dan Mullen has a list of names to call if any of his Asst Coaches leave, Scott Stricklin has a list if any of his head coaches - Mens or Womens - leave.

Stricklin brings more than 28 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics to Florida, including 23 years at Southeastern Conference schools, and the past six as athletic director at his alma mater, Mississippi State University.

Jeremy Foley talked about "his list" several times. I have no idea who would replace Dan Mullen, but I'm sure we would not have to piss away $100,000 PLUS hiring a search firm the way FSU did.

But, as Foley found out, having a list & checking it twice and Athletic Department experience is no guarantee when it comes to hiring Head Football Coaches - Muschamp & McElwain come to mind rather quickly !

FSU paid DHR $100,000 in addition to search-related indirect expenses. Direct expenses such as travel were billed monthly.

Problem for FSU was they did not have Athletic Dept people in charge. They did not have that wealth of experience & people connections an experienced AD like Strickin brings to the table.

What FSU had was David Coburn & John Thrasher.

Thrasher a politician who lost an election & needed a job as president of FSU & Coburn a political flunky.
While Coburn brought a wealth of legislative and state budget experience to FSU’s administration when President Barron hired him in 2012, Coburn was not a full-time, career athletic employee.

Coburn brought in because of budgetary / financial problems in FSU Athletic Department - they were broke !

In his nine months as interim head of Athletics, Coburn applied his almost 40 years of legislative and university experience to address challenging budget issues and streamline, reorganize and implement new policies to help the department operate more efficiently and effectively.

Budgeting important ! Athletic Department must live within their means, but lack of Athletic Department "know how" & people connections results in hiring an idiot like Willie Taggart for $6,000,000 a year !

Coburn has no coaching / athletic skills or connections. resulting in the hiring of a search firm.

David Coburn will never replace Scott Strickin on the CFP "search committee" !

Coburn and thrasher are bad... Thats why the coaching search firm was hired. 100k is actually really cheap for this kind of thing. The engineering firm i worked for used these firms (not for coachi g obviously) and we paid around 50 to 60k. So for a football program paying 100k and doing as thorough of a search as they did... Was impressive and exactly what we needed. I honestly think thrasher and coburn would have hired odell with no firm

It took a firm to find a young up and coming coach in the G5 looking for a pay raise and a league that could play for a national title? $100,000? I could have saved FSU $999,999 and gave them his street address.

Mullen isn't going to the Cowboys (well hardly no chance I would think). It wouldnt be a big surprise to see Meyer or Riley there however.

They interviewed and contacted 3 NFL coaches and over 25 college coaches, vetted all of them, looked at their coaching trees and potential hires and even met with those coaches. There is zero percent chance that any admin can achieve that. These firms are as thorough as can be. Yes, its easy to say, pick a g5 coach who had success and go but this firms scope is much greater than any admin can ever be. We used firms like this for our engineering company about 3 times last yr alone. You cant beat them. Its the in depth vetting and scope that is costly. They do more than look at records

This thread in in line with the "Who replaces Grantham" thread Why are we talking about replacing someone who has a job and hasn't even interviewed with another organization?

@PacoGator19

@PacoGator19 I know we shut down the TG thread, but hearing some noise that he's a serious contender for MSU? Actually at the top of their list? Are you hearing any of that?
