I thought St. Augustine would be nicer....

....lots of tatted up, grungy, hippie trash here....and I'm not talking about the bums sleeping on the streets because I see that too....but I shouldn't single out this area, I've noticed how trashy this country has become but I thought a nice historical city would be more charming.
St Augustine is a tourist attraction for the most part (downtown). What you are seeing is a microcosm of the typical Democrat voter.

Haven't had time to go through that yet, but the rest of St Johns County is right of WWII Berlin. 😂 It's like every other place, urban decay and rot from within .

St. Augustine was a great place to visit in the 80s', but now it has gone into the abyss of drugs and crime. Sebastian is still pretty much decluttered and nice to visit (I used to surf there at the inlet). Miami was great in the 50-60s' but look at it now. Cosmo doesn't mean nice anymore.

I know, thankfully father in law paid for the airbnb, haha. I like American history so I like places like St. Augustine but my expectation was I'd see a quaint, charming, peaceful, classy people locale.....apparently I underestimated the sheer volume of liberal trash around these parts. At a peaceful waterside restaurant for dinner there was even a bald guy with tattoos all over his head and full body down to his toes with a negative vibe to him like MS-13 style. And the young locals are not that bad but they are still not my cup of tea. I expect some of this in Miami or liberal shithole areas but I assumed St. Augustine would just be a cut above most other parts of Florida.

Which raises a good question, if one were to move to Florida, where is the best all around area for good wholesome people with good beaches, nice locals, conservative values, not too humid or trashy? I'm not fond of Miami or the Panhandle and I prefer Atlantic over the Gulf....I would like the coldest part of Florida, which is the northeast corner....but I've been to Fernandina/Amelia Island and their was liberal trash there too. I thought St. Augustine would be the place but it's too liberaled out for me. Downtown art museums doing nude shit displays, my kid doesn't need to see that. Guess I'll stay in my red county in South Carolina for the time being while watching Californians and New Yorkers flood in and try to take over.

I'm surprised Amelia Island wasn't to your tastes. It's gotten expensive AF lately though, that should cull 99% of the Antifa trash out. All of Florida is humid AF in the summers, no getting around that. There is a remote place between Mayport and Amelia island called Black Hammond Island if you can find property there.
My wife and I have a small slice of paradise on the gulf. Population 500, people are very friendly. There's not much to do other than drink and fish, which is just fine to me. We ae located sandwiched right in the middle of a National Wildlife Refuge, so growth and sprawl will never happen. Closest town of consequence is Gainesville and Ocala, an hour away. Like most anything, you have to choose your priorities and ignore the inconveniences.

spoken like a true california lib, good lord you buffoons are dumb.

It was Homestead AFB, FL where I learned cars rust.

nail1988, St Augustine grass has been banned in San Antonio and Waco for new contruction. Too thirsty. How about where you build? My St. Augustine is mostly yellow because of heat and no rain. My little bit of common burmuda is doing quite nicely.

I planted some celebration burmuda in the back yard. It's on the LSU football field. Kinda blue-green. Very hardy. OU, 'Bama and T-A&M have Latitude 36 burmuda, the most cold tolerant burmuda. Looks really good. It's my favorite sports field natural.

We stayed at the northern side of Amelia Island. Downtown Fernandina had some junk people at that oldest bar saloon in Florida and some artsy fartsy folks at some of the shops. We didn't see the southern half of the island which is where the Ritz and other fancy places are. We went there after googling places to find sharks teeth and Amelia Island is a great place for that. It was a cool chill area, I'm not complaining, just some liberal flakes I saw downtown Fernandina. Downtown St. Augustine was fine, just wasn't expecting so much grungy liberal looking folks. What little I saw of St. Augustine Beach was not impressive. Ponce de Leon Fountain of Youth archeological site was cool though, I love that history stuff. Little known fact for you Floridians, the French and Spanish had short lived settlements in South Carolina in the 1500's and Santa Elena in SC (where Parris Island and Port Royal are today) was the capital of Spanish Florida before being moved to St. Augustine.
