I think this needs to be said…We Need To Stop Copying Other Programs

First, off I am super guilty of wanting to copy Nick Saban’s program model. I have pounded the table for it to happen for probably about a decade. So, I am not pointing fingers at anyone. I am just as guilty as anyone.

With that said, I no longer believe we can return our program to greatness doing what everyone else is doing. There are 3 main reasons for that.

1. We either don’t have the amount of money to pull it off or we are not willing to spend it. If you want to be the best at something it means going all in. I have never heard of someone taking over an industry by only dedicating a fraction of their finances toward their endeavors. Btw, I am talking about our athletic program’s budget not the entirety of the university’s budget (I know some mofo out there was waiting to post that ridiculous remark).

2. We are way too damn slow at the copying process. Like unbelievably snail pace slow. It is one thing to take 1-2 years to copy someone else. It is another for it to take over 6 years. Truly, we are by far the slowest program when it comes to adapting. At least, we have been for the last 15 years.

3. All of our national championships have come by do something everyone else was too scared to do. We brought the Fun n’ Gun and the Spread offenses to the 3 yards and cloud of dust SEC. Hell, it is ironic that we are the program that started this new revolution of high output offenses in the SEC, but we are now trying to become a football team that centers around pounding the rock. Like I said up above I am very guilty at advocating for us to become this type of program. I now believe that is the wrong stance to take.

Look, I am not saying we need to try and reinvent the wheel again, but I do believe we need to change our current approach. Let’s be honest this will be Napier’s last season as our head coach barring a miracle. 7-5 is base case scenario and I don’t believe any fan will be satisfied with that scenario in year 3. Once again, UF administration has set up our 4th straight head coach to fail. This one was given the necessary facilities, but we did not do a good enough job backing him with NIL deal IMO. However, it appears we brought in another coach with a ridiculous S&C program. How the hell we repeated our mistake after just a few years I will never know. Unbelievable.

We need to go after a coach who is all about SPEED!!!! It doesn’t matter who the head coach is we still struggle to find good offensive linemen. Hell, every time we get one it is because we have already found success on the field. We never land good OL then have success on the field. We always find success on the field by emphasizing what the state of Florida produces buckets upon buckets of…..hot, nasty SPEED!!!

The offense should revolve around getting the ball to playmakers in space and consistently landing deep shots. Honestly, going up tempo would be wise as well IMO. Defensively, it should all be about creating negative plays: sacks, TFL, and INTs. If we give up some explosive plays then so be it. Our offense is going to score 40 anyway. Defense is all about taking possessions away and preventing the opposing from any having enough opportunities to score 40+.

Having a team that can take it’s time, telegraph a down hill run play, and still gain 5 yards is just not realistic for us.

However, having the fastest football team in the country actually is….we have done it before and we can do it again.

Personally, I hope the administration finally figures out that they can no longer play it safe. That they must swallow their pride and take a risk.

My #1 choice would be Kiffen personally. He has publicly stated anything less than 500 yard of offense is a failure now a days. He understands that is modern day football. Whether we like it or not he is right. The guy consistently goes all in and yes sometimes he whiffs, but lately the dude has been hitting homer after homer.

If not Kiffen I just hope we finally hire a coach that fits the strength of the type of players the state of Florida produces (SPEED) and gives him all the support (NIL) that he needs to build the fastest team in the country.
