(How much) will satellite camps (@ recruiting hotbeds) be advantageous in recruiting?

I think this is a long term strategy, if you get one recruit, well he might be the one you needed. This might give us more exposure in areas where kids simply don't look at us because they would not normally be able to be in front of our coaches. Building our Brand won't hurt. A big plus would be if we can maintain continuity in the coaching staff over a few years, allow us to find the younger players in these areas and build lasting relationships.

After giving the Sat-camp idea some thought over the last few weeks, I've decided that they are probably a waste of time and effort for the Gator coaches.

However, I can certainly see how a has-been northern school would feel the need to relocate their camps to Florida, or elsewhere in SEC territory, in some vain attempt to draw in a few extra quality recruits. Their home state pools are pretty shallow now days.

Were I Mc-staff, I'd just concentrate on making the camps that are held at UF as pleasant and as effective a tool as possible, instead of wasting time, $$, and effort in going elsewhere. UF is already in about as good of a camp location as any coach could ask for IMOHO.

Do a really good job at home and let all of the stray dogs continue to run around the neighborhood barking all they want to. They will only get the one's that don't really deserve to be Gators anyway.... :cool:

Instagator I see your point and agree somewhat. My Main concern is coaches getting burned out.

Ummm...

You tell the recruits in AMERICA that they will get to travel to exotic locales every SPRING BREAK.

Ok I'm confused on what these satellite camps consist of. Does it mean you pack up your team and hold practices somewhere different from the normal practice area?

Or is it the camps held at some other schools (smaller type 1AA types) and the coaches are "guest coaches" and these camps consist of high school kids?

More like this.

No satellite camps are being held in the Virgin Islands. Last time I checked not a lot of big time football prospects are coming out of the Virgin Islands. Nobody is doing a satellite camp there.

frostd, I agree with the possible burn-out thingy. Too much road is not a good thing.
Just another reason to NOT spend much time or effort on them.
Concentrate on making the UF camps 4.0 and everything will be fine. :)

Jumping on this particular Yankee bandwagon does not make good recruiting sense to me, but maybe I've missed something that Mc-staff sees in them? o_O

The NCAA rightfully overturned the ban, this issue is really overblown. All this is about is ACC and SEC coaches not wanting schools outside the region getting better looks at recruits in the area. But it's hypocritical because they send their coaches to camps elsewhere which is essentially the same thing.

And that's the funny part, pretty much all staffs participate in camps at different schools. When I was in HS I went to a UGA camp and they had coaches from Toledo, Tulane, etc there. George McDonald was at a UF camp I went too and I ended up getting an offer from Western Michigan just because he worked that camp and got to see me up close. The coaches from outside schools, usually smaller schools, run the positional drills and get a better look at guys that either can't afford to or won't go to a place like Toledo to camp. If you go to any UF camp you'll notice coaches from all over running drills there. These camps actually help more kids get noticed. And the coaches against the camps KNOW this but they're trying to pretend as if they're looking out for student athletes best interests all so that can keep competitors out their backyards. C*nts.

So, who did the hardblow meat-chicken 'steal' in his 2016 class from Florida?
(2 lower end 4 stars and 4 of the surplus 3 stars, big deal) :rolleyes:

TE Nick Eubanks 6-6 208 **** - Plantation
~ He had a UF offer, but the Gators already have 4 quality TE's on the roster, so no playing time available. o_O

LB Devin Bush 5-11 224 **** - Pembroke Pines
~ He had a UF offer, but the Gators already had LB'ers rated #1-3-5, on roster and 3 more in the 2016 class, including this flip away from Mich: LB David Reese 6-1 238 *** - Farmington, MI. :p

The Gator's would have taken both of them, but neither were gonna be starters for 2016. (might be why they chose to go to Mich, good enough to start there)
-------------

DB Devin Gill 6-0 204 *** - Pembroke Pines (UF scout team)

DB Josh Metellus 6-0 187 *** - Pembroke Pines (UF scout team)

-------- Did hardblow have to take those 3 star DB's just to get their teammate, the 4 star LB to commit???

WR Eddie McDoom 6-1 170 *** - Winter Garden (UF took 5 - 4 star WR's)

DE Joshua Uche 6-1 217 *** - Miami (UF is loaded at the DE position)

Some of those 6 might eventually pan out for MI, but none of them will be missed at UF in 2016.

From hardblows camp held in Prattville, AL

RB Kingston Davis 6-0 242 *** - Prattville, AL

LB Dytarious Johnson 5-11 215 *** - Prattville, AL

~~~~~~~~~~~~
RB Lamical Perine 5-11 218 Theodore, AL - Alabama HS 6A Back of the Year
~ Saban offered and repeatedly tried to flip him away from Mc-staff, but NO SALE! o_O
LB Jeremiah Moon 6-4 210 *** - Hoover AL (a likely RUSH >DE/OLB< when he fills out) Auburn's Mal-adjust offered him too, but he's a Gator now instead. :p
Mc-staff also got a DB, 3 total from Alabama without camping there....
I like our three Ala-bammers way better than the two that hardblow got. :cool:
DB Jeawon Taylor 6-2 192 *** - Montgomery, AL
A Safety or an OLB at UF in a couple of years, depending on how he fills out.
Overall, I don't see any big payoff for the meat-chickens by their wasting time & $$ to camp in SEC territory. They could have likely gotten those same commits by the normal recruiting paths. It all looks like a loud-mouthed PR stunt that was happily picked up and ran with by the usual bored off-season media-morons. :confused:
Michigan had Spring practice here. Last time I checked, Spring practice included the players.
Ergo, we have Spring practice somewhere even nicer.
