...FSU fans were all gaga that FSU Law School was rated higher than the University of Florida Law School by US News and World Report last year?

Well now, that was short lived.

They do have a criminal law internship program that US News hailed as the "most intensive, in-depth and thorough introduction to criminal law yet devised by man."

It's called "follow Jameis around for a semester."

Am I correct in remembering that you were one of the cheerleaders when the previous ranking came out?

Nope. Not my wheelhouse. Never much cared for academic rankings....I do well to retain key concepts from the three 'Rs'.

Shirtless pics, 40 times, how the defense looks incredible against our equally incredible offense.

Who cares. It's a law school. Academic smack about law schools is the lowest of the low. If you really want to be earnest when it comes to academic smack, stick to the real schools, anything involving STEM.

It's a "BONGism." It refers to all things regarding the bravado of Spring Football.
Thanks. Is "Dap" an acronym?
Dap = props

Agreed!

I love funny things!
You understand the difference in humor between the two, do you not?

Any fracking idiot can photo shop. And most do.

Mine was not a photo shop. What makes it all the more funny.

I'm confused. Why would Mike Summers use photoshop to make himself look illiterate?
confused0024.r191677.gif
He was using the graphic to intimidate the nole DL. He was just communicating on their level. Duh.

FSU might be in trouble. They have been accused of this kind of manipulation for some time

Much
as I despise the USNWR ranking system, I'm a bit surprised that we
deans (and associate deans) don't use our relatively outsized influence
as voters in the peer-assessment component of the ranking to police our
own ranks.

When a school a quarter of its second-year class is comprised of students who it rejected for admission as first-year students,
it's obvious that the school is playing games to artificially inflate
its employment outcomes and student selectivity and ultimately its USNWR
ranking. In my mind, this is unethical, because it actively seeks to
mislead consumers (prospective students and employers of current
students) who may not understand the numbers-manipulation that is
occurring behind the curtain. It's also, I believe, a sure sign of
structural weakness - if a school has to play games to maintain its
employment statistics or entering-student credentials, the school is
masking significant underlying problems. ...

I
am not, by any stretch, a fan of the USNWR rankings. Many law deans
boycott the annual survey, or at least say they do, for good reason. But
for those who do fill the survey out, perhaps it makes sense next year
to consider using the survey to significantly penalize the law schools
who are manipulating their numbers and misleading consumers. Forcing
schools to pay a price for their misbehavior seems the best way to stop
it.

I'm embarrassed to say FSU administrators didn't realize they didn't need a physical location for this area of study. The building now serves as overflow for students in the Department of Anthropology in the Varsity Plaza shopping center. The maps are in the revision process and should be corrected as soon as the new crayons arrive on campus.

I guess you missed the admin memo regarding crayon use on campus. Due to some unfortunate incidents, crayons are prohibited. They will be replaced by:

The "FSU caught-up with UF in the rankings only because they are accepting a bunch of transfers" line is something that UF Law administrators probably say in order to reassure their students, many of whom likely chose UF Law solely because it used to be ranked much higher than FSU in the USNews Law rankings -- and they assumed that it was going to stay that way forever.

FSU's rise has to do with their high bar passage rates and their strong employment numbers, the latter being due to the natural advantage of being located in the state capital.

So, since football season is about over, let's not start any new threads about the awesomeness of Florida academics and the sucktitude of FSU academics. We can just review this thread for completeness and try and try and find new ground

Here is new grist for the off season discussion mill;

The FDOE released data on graduation rates and median alumni salaries for every school in the state, public and private. According to the data, graduates from Florida State University earn a median salary of $44,000 – on par with graduates from University of Central Florida and University of South Florida, who make $43,000 and $41,700, respectively. The standout of the group, though, is University of Florida, with grads raking in $51,300.

Other public Florida schools, including Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic and Florida International also came in around the low $40,000s.

The answer is in the article if you actually read it? UF produces more STEM graduates. It doesn't mean you are worth more because of UF being on your degree.

So, FSU cannot offer STEM subjects?

FSU doesn't have its own, large, well-funded engineering college, like UF.

Up until this year, FSU has essentially been the junior partner of the FAMU-FSU CoE, which has been languishing for decades, due to mismanagement and out-of-date facilities. Now that FSU has been made the fiscal agent of the college, long-overdue repairs and upgrades are being made, but it will take some time for the school to catch up.

FSU Computer Science enrollment has doubled over the last few years, but that's probably true of any school these days.
