It is kind of small (kind of JV size as compared to the other teams using it), but it's a start.

What am I looking at???

Edit: nvm, saw the play card being held up. I only thought to look for that because Sad's been begging for it for a few years. Damn get out of my head Sad!

Was at the game and immediately thought of Sad, so I took the picture. So he is clearly in my head, too.

Can someone explain how the cards work? How do you know which of the 6 pictures to look at to get the play? Or do all 6 add up to one play, with each picture speaking to a different position?

sadgator actually found the close-up photo of ours...not half bad...

typically, those systems have a picture to call (1) personnel grouping, (2) formation, (3) the protection, and sometimes (4) play(s). A lot of times, they have extraneous information on them which is just there to camouflage the information that is being communicated. For example, the agreement could be to look only at the middle columns, where the gator player means a certain personnel group, the over means a certain formation, and the guy with the baseball bat means a certain play; the other two columns are just there to disguise the call.

Often times, there are other signals, like the back up QBs. One might have a hat on, and he's the real signal and the others are decoys, or the guy closest to the coach is the real one and the others are decoys. These might be the actual play, or information not on the cards.

Since UF uses it for the defense (that's Jeff Collins the DC in the fore), Imma gonna guess that it is coverages, blitzes, etc.

Finding out that those are DEFENSIVE play cards was like a massive wet fart to sadgator.

sadgator is not quite sure how he is ever going to recover.

What if I told you that the signs that say "$ Down" (there are actually two) only come out on 3rd down & red zone plays to signify "Money Down", would you be

?

No one seems high on Collins. He never had a great Defense over at MSU. Even if he couldn't recruit great players over there, he still should have had better defenses.

sadgator is contemplating having a "money down" sign installed over his side of the bed that he can cover up and reveal to mrs. sadgator on select evenings.

I have one of those. It is bright neon (to wake her up, just in case) and I have it on a lamp timer to come on EVERY evening.

You are not very high on Collins, are you? Was that what you learned of him while you were at MSU?

so far he's not doing what I expected of him in terms of scheme, if he keeps doing what he was doing the other night.. We will be absolutely screwed

I can kinda see Collins' logic. We were so man-heavy in coverage the last few years that it made us easy to scheme for. But at the same time, good man coverage is hard to beat because it contests every throw. What I'm seeing that I do like is we're doing a lot of pattern matching where our zones basically turn into man coverage depending on the route. Like Cover 3 turning into man if the outside receiver goes vertical or the safety matching up man coverage on the slot if he's 10+ yards up the field, etc. But the issue to me is everybody has to be on the same page with that and our linebackers have been lost both games. Luckily, some of those teams haven't been able to take advantage of it too much.

And I'd like to see us use more man when they run base 2X2 sets for example. Why are we zoning that? It's a basic spread formation and between our safeties and corners we should be able to play man there. But we zone and then teams isolate our linebackers or safeties and just gash us over and over again.

When I saw our Safeties backing up off the screen I was having a nightmare in reality. We have to start blitzing somebody in the A gap at least sometimes

Jeez I hope not. The few times in Game 1 and Game 2 we called A-gap blitzes we had defenders running into each other. That's another thing I don't like atm...we telegraph our blitzes so much, no disguise. What we show presnap is generally what we bring which is why our zones get ate up. The leverage we show with our DB's presnap is a perfect indicator of what's coming.

I read somewhere, maybe here, that the DBs all got together this week and went to him to complain about all the zone coverage.

I am less concerned bout scheme, assuming the schemes are ones that can succeed, than I am about the lack of discipline in the rushing lanes, the bad tackling angles and the inability to wrap up. All were evident in the ECU game.

Excellent. Mac is giving us what we want. He is making football fun again. In 4 games he has already given sadgator more enjoyment and fun than Mus gave in his total 4 years. How many times did the bobbleheads actually show up after meaningful wins under Mus?!?! Fuddy Duddy Mus probably hated the bobbleheads anyway. sadgator can guarantee that Mac loves them.

sadgator also saw cards with random numbers on them. sadgator had no idea what the numbers actually meant, but they looked bad ass. They gave sadgator comfort knowing that real play calling and strategy was actually occurring right in front of his eyes.

As an aside, sadgator thinks the $ down thing is probably gonna wear itself out eventually...but damn if it wasn't fun on that second to last Tennessee series.

I'm dying at the thought of Sad all giddy over the cards, even if he doesn't know or care what's on them. LOL.

It is the simple things that please sadgator. We've gone from a fat dude sitting on a cooler to flashy boards with strange symbols. We've gone from being afraid of our own shadow to being fourth down warriors. Mac is making us cool again. That is all sadgator wants.
