I did a WTF when I read that Grantham had been hired as DC back when..........guess my fears were confirmed. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the same DC that I used to salivate about UF facing against UGA? LMAO............. I've NEVER seen so many missed tackles or soft DL line play......... gonna be a tough year with this kind of scheme. So what we gain with Mullen on O we lose with the defense? Oh my.............

Scheme is fine. The players in it are not. Our linebackers are terrible...don’t fill the correct gaps and always missing tackles. They were awful tonight. And as for as good a corner as Henderson is in coverage he’s scared to tackle. Him and Jaewon Taylor both. Taylor had a pathetic effort on that deep TD and missed more tackles than just about anybody. He needs to ride pine along with Jackson and Joseph. If you won’t tackle you shouldn’t play.

I'll take your word for it as nobody here knows defense like you do.......recruiting is gonna be a priority.

We Haven't had a corner that was willing to tackle in 10 years.

How many times have dawg fans warned you about this guy?!???!?

We hear that but he really only had one bad defense while at Georgia, Louisville and Miss State. Heck he turned Louisville and Miss State into top 10 total defenses after taking over. I think it may be more him not having the players to do what he wants to do this season.

When we played him at Louisville and Miss State, we ate him alive. Guy constantly falls flat on his face in big games.

Ok then. You’ll see.

We really took it for granted having good D under Mac and Mus...
Huh? Our D last year was the worst I've seen since I became a Gators fan in 2000. That was under Mac. Him and Shannon recruited shit all for talent on that side of the ball. Muschamp's talented defensive guys all matriculated over Mac's time here and our D got worse and worse year over year under Mac and I thought last year was the bottoming out but maybe it's this year.

Ga fan here, Grantham's 2010 season was brutal at Georgia as we were transitioning from a 4-3 base to a 3-4. He didn't turn it around really until the 2012 season and he couldn't stop Bama from rushing all over the strong side of the line in the 2nd half of the SEC championship game.

Also, who will ever forget "Miracle on the planes" in 2013 vs Auburn?

However, in games we were favored in, his defenses usually performed in 2012 and 2013.

We had Grantham as our DC from 2010 - 2013, Aaron Murray was our QB all 4 of those years and he holds the career passing yards record in the SEC. Think about that for a moment. How many yards of offense will mullen have to put up to win big games with Grantham is what it tells me. He'll do just enough to make you think he's a solid DC then you'll have a WTF game on defense, usually in a big game. Kentucky last night reminded me of our game vs SC in week 2 of 2010, they ran the ball all over us and looked like world beaters.

Perhaps he'll gain my attention if he starts closing 5 star talent on the DL and at LB, until then he's a liability for the gators reaching their full potential with Mullen.

I'm not going to read the rest of this thread.

Oozie is right. The scheme is fine. I paid as much attention to it as I could last night.

These guys (especially Randy Shannon's guys) have no football IQ and no nose for the ball. Awareness is something a preach at work and unfortunately, you can't teach that apparently. These guys have no awareness.

Grantham isn't a bad DC, he's not an elite one either. Elite DCs typically don't play for offensive-minded coaches, they play for defensive-minded coaches.

Another reason why it makes sense to give Mullen at least a year or two with the same staff before judgements on firing and hiring are made.

What they lack is guts, fight, and heart. Kentucky had it. We need that. How could you not show up in that game? This one really is primarily on the players.

I mean, that sounds like something a liberal would say.

But they literally don't know how to position themselves to the ball csrrier because they don't have any natural instinct for it.

Just saying.

But hearts and guts and such is nice too I guess.

Yep. Their instincts suck, they constantly run themselves out of plays. Joseph is the worst offender which is a death sentence when that’s your middle linebacker. No surprise we got gashed running.

UK fan here. Good game last night. I just wanted to chime in that Louisville fans were thrilled with the Grantham hire, and more thrilled when he left. I think fans felt the same way pretty much everywhere he was. Mullen is a great offensive mind and your program deserves someone better than Grantham to run the other side of the ball.

I hope the Defensive Personal isn’t thinking of going to the NFL because there is no way in the world they would get drafted, get invited, not even a consult will happen with what we seen last night. Just awful!!
