I grew up on Silver Ring Cuban sandwiches from a famous shop on 7th Ave in Ybor City. Back in the 50's-60's at lunch time, the fast moving line would wrap around an entire city block.
The 2 brothers that started the Silver Ring way back in the stone-age finally died of old age. None of the new generation wanted to run the business, so the family sold out. I moved away many years ago (70's), so I don't know what it's like now days, or if it's even still there now....
However, I'm very glad that that one of their long ago original employees now has a shop in G'ville,,, La Familia. Great food from great people imo. Sandwiches, black beans & rice, deviled crabs, etc,,, yummy! Whenever I'm in hog-town, I make sure to go by there and get some food, eat in or take out.
