I would hope that Mullen watched last years tape and given that, it doesn’t say much about Trask and Emory Jones. Franks is one of those in a long line who has all the physical gifts but, from what I’ve seen and from an insider, he is not the smartest quarterback. I’m thinking he doesn’t finish out the season as our QB.

Remember how we all actually wanted LDR last year? It’s gonna be ANOTHER long one Gator Fans.

We can have hope I guess but I think the reality is all of Franks problems didn't just come from Nuss and Mac. He seems to have struggled ever since he started the high school all star game stuff to his playing time here.

Tool = (LakerGator/BucaNole)

More like you all wanted LDR. I didn't want him or that bum Zaire here. Maybe if Mac and Nuss had spent some time actually trying to develop the QB's they recruited they wouldn't have gotten fired.

Quarterbacks have been known to improve with age and maturity? Good coaching, play calling, improved offensive line play , special teams play , agressive defense. 10’more players on the depth chart, Scarlett, grimes ya get the picture? Can
We frickin play a game?

Yes they do. All of that is true...they dont go from the franks last yr to an all star qb this yr tho. There is always improvement but very rarely does a guy go from lookikg completely lost to great in 1 yr.

Clearly no talent or vision...nothing for any opposing fans to worry about...

He had some good moments.... He won 4 games tho... I was hoping for trask or jones but kind of knew jones wasnt ready. Hes not going to magically be a superstar. At best this yr hes a game manager. I just never saw "it" from him. I hope he does well, tired of watching u guys lose so much. Its a lot more fun if both of us are good.

Franks did so much crazy crap the stats don't capture - was just watching the KY replay on TV and Franks was in the endzone on a 3rd down and throws a pass that gets batted into the air by a KY defender and instead of batting it down in the endzone not to risk giving KY a TD or a safety (no one was right near him) Franks proceeds to catch the ball and runs it out losing 4 yards putting more pressure on the punter.

The punter then has the kick returned to our 10 yard line resulting in a KY TD. That was the point that Mac finally put Del Rio into the game.

Does Franks give me hope - about the same amount as anyone we have on roster that would have been named the starting QB. Right now, there's no way to really judge any of them with confidence.

lol we'll all have 20-20 in hindsight though I'm sure!!

I just don't know what to say than other I trust Mullen at this point. Mullen has to this point not given me any reason to not trust him. As an OC here or a HC at MSU. They groomed Tebow perfectly and he did the same while Dak was young. I'm sure we will see packages for Emory.

It gives me hope.

Hope in what way? Hope that Mullen can transform him into a decent player? That his brain will catch up to his physical talent and become capable of multiple reads, or just one good read?

I have faith in Mullen as a coach, my only hope is Frank's has outplayed all his competition and was noticeably better than what he has shown thus far. I hope it isn't because his competition was so bad, that he wasn't just the least offensive sight to ever stumble through practice. That is my hope.

Liar....

Between poor coaching with Mac and Nuss, and an awful, and I mean AWFUL offensive scheme, I think Mullen and crew can make Franks serviceable.

We didn't run logical offensive schemes under Mac and Nuss. Bizarre things, really.

How is Franks supposed to grow as a WB when no one is hands on with him and he's asked to throw screen pass after screen pass and then toss it deep?

That's ridiculous.

Do I think he has "greatness in him?" No. That would shock the hell out of me if he turned the corner like that, but I do think that better coaching and scheme can make him better for us.

And if you think Mullen didn't think he was the best option, take a look at the depth chart. He hasn't been afraid to make changes so far.

I know this is hard for people that hope Trask has just been treated misfairly so far.

All this.

Some of the stuff we did on offense made absolutely no sense schematically, I’ve talked about a few of them before. Trying to run outside zone from tight formations, running toss plays into the boundary, WR screens on 3rd and long, having 3 receivers in the same area on intermediate routes, running quick game and not chop blocking to get defenders hands down (see all the batted balls), etc. For example if you go look at that INT Franks threw against UT off Lewis’ hands we had multiple receivers just run downfield and run curl routes...against zone. What in the actual f*ck.

I don’t think Franks will ever be great or even very good but that offense made everybody look like trash. And to your point there’s been shakeups all over the depth chart with presumed starters sitting at 2nd or 3rd string so Mullen clearly ain’t afraid to make changes. If Franks wasn’t the best he wouldn’t be playing. Like I said in that other thread you almost never see coaches criticize each other because it’s all one big frat and Mullen flat out said none of the QB’s received any coaching. He almost seemed pissed off when he said it. That’s as big as an indictment as there is on Nuss and Mac, he held no punches.

Take the time to listen to the Dooley Noted podcast interview with Steve Spurrier and listen to what Steve has to say about the coaching from ‘Ol Mac and the Gang...

It is along these same lines...and pretty eye opening....(you gotta scroll down after clicking on the link below to find it)....

Nice drop. Listening to it now. The fact they’re willing to go on the record criticizing them is telling. That rarely happens in coaching circles.

I don’t think they knew either. Still trying to figure it out probably which is why they’re both position coaches and not even in a position to call an offense.

I doubt the NE coach could make Franks serviceable. He can prove me wrong this year but nothing in his previous reactions to pressure suggest the light will ever come on in those situations.

I think Mullen isn't sure who is the best option because Franks has the better physical tools and Trask has never taken a live game snap. We will probably find out in the middle of the season however.
