My guess is he just secured a big establishment donation that was conditional on him making this statement publicly. And I suspect DeSantis was waiting till he knew he had no chance of winning before he would take that donation with those strings attached, cause he knows this officially kills his campaign's chances in 2024.
IOW, it seems DeSantis has now entered the prostitution stage of his campaign. He will say or do whatever it takes to get more donos.
I'm disappointed DeSantis chose to run. He was elected to be Governor and he's not giving the state 100%.
Biggest sad for me in all of this is the lack of a bench of Trump wins the next 4 years.

True, but there's still time. I think there will be a LOT of massive news coming out in the next year and how people react to it will help set some up for a future run.
I remember thinking that Trump would teach the other mealy-mouthed republicans that it's OK to say what needs to be said.

Yep if you were looking you could see their plan starting in later 2021 to do a Trojan horse candidate to try and pry some of the base away from Trump.

You can go back and read the posts here from around mid 2022 and earlier, I think we all saw Trump as the short-term solution, but DeSantis was the long-term solution that we thought could truly restore America.

You still do NOT understand. They KNOW what to say...they are being PAID to say what they are. They are cONTROLLED. Trump is NOT in their control. This is all that matters.
Which is EXACTLY WHY he is getting the brakes beat off of his election run.
I think they are too timid to say the truth. They're frightened of being called racist/bigoted/sexist or whatever.
Maybe at times...but with all that HUGE dark money...comes expectations
