Florida RHP Brandon Neely drafted in 3rd round round by the Boston Red Sox

Junior right-handed pitcher Brandon Neely is the second Florida Gators player to get drafted in the 2024 MLB Draft. The Boston Red Sox selected Brandon Neely on Monday with the 86th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Coming out of high school, Neely was a blue-chip prospect who was one of the top signees in Florida’s 2021 recruiting class. Neely was the 137th-ranked prospect and the 42nd-ranked right-handed pitcher in his class. Neely also went undrafted and enrolled at the University of Florida.

In his freshman season, Neely was one of the best freshman pitchers in the nation. Neely made 21 appearances and started in ten games. He posted a 3-3 record with a 3.76 ERA, one save, and 74 strikeouts in 69.1 innings pitched.

In his sophomore season, Neely was named the Gators closer and was arguably the best closer in the 2022 season. Neely made a team-high 34 appearances. He posted a 2-3 record with a 3.58 ERA, 13 saves, 1.23 WHIP, and 11.7 K/9.

Heading into his junior season, Neely was named a Preseason All-American as a closer. Neely had an up-and-down junior season and was outstanding in the postseason. Neely made 28 appearances and six starts. He recorded five saves and struck out 108 batters in 79 innings pitched. On MLB Pipeline, Neely is the 193rd-ranked prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft.

The slot value for the 86th pick is $878,800.
