NonGator ESPN and Tom Petty songs?

Is there something happening that I am not aware of: why is ESPN using covers of Tom Petty songs so much this season?

Today I have heard "I Won't Back Down", "Learning to Fly", and "Running Down a Dream."

Am I missing something? I mean, I'm all for honoring Petty, but these are covers. Just weird.

Also, I'm now a bit protective of "I Won't Back Down."
