Deion just jabbed another knife…

JSU must have something amazing going because just 1 day ago it was reported that the 3 choices to decide between were fsu, miami, and oregon. Some sources say usc-w as well.

I dont even know if hes even taken a visit to JSU. He said the reason for the switch was that he wanted to play for Prime Time. Apparently thats enough.

I just dont think these players will have as great of a chance to be drafted by playing against Alcorn State....

They wont be completely overlooked, but even if they get drafted it will likely be in the last rounds. The last person from JSU that was drafted was in 2008.

Just seems weird to me. Do they also realize they will be playing in small conferences against weaker competition in half empty stadiums (although Miami plays in a half empty stadium) and not on TV? Yes they can still get drafted but the NFL scouts are going to question their competition so likely won’t get drafted as high as if they showed out in a P5 program

Im guessing that it really wont "sink in" untill later. I guess they have cartoon stars still in their eyes just because DS is there. I mean, the dude had 35 offers, including from Alabama.......and he decides on JSU?

Weird indeed

A top 50 recruit. I wonder if he is getting some money from that one deal also. No other way does it make sense.

Hate to say it, but thats the only possibilty I can think of. Then again, with 35 offers from bigger schools nobody else is offering better "incentives"....anywhere? I dont know about that.

Steve McNair, Jerry Rice and Carson Wentz say hi…if you can play the NFL doesn’t care where you come from!

As stated earlier, its not impossible. Kurt Warner is a great example as well.

However, lets not pretend its not still a bigger roll of the dice. Listing hall of famers is not the best example of how common it will be to get drafted from small colleges even if you play well.

Again not impossible as has been stated but those are few and far in between. Also how is the coaching going to be at this smaller program? Are they going to get developed?

Exactly

He had a a bucketload of teams to choose from that you can feel confident in the staff to develop them for the next level.

At JSU, we dont even really know how good DS is as a HC, much less his assistants' abilities. He's only been there for 1 full season.....and we definitely know that the one year is not an adequate measuring tool of ability and future success.

If DS had been there 5 years and really proved something then it would be a ton more understanding.

I've got to think Deion is doing all of this to get a big time job as soon as possible by showing what he can do in the NIL arena. And Barstool will follow him, that's for sure.

And then of course those kids will follow him to wherever he goes.

I do love that there also the crowd that lauds this ad great for HBCUs....lol no....they're just being taken advantage of.

But enjoy it I guess.

I was just thinking about JSU being a HBCU. The problem is how Deon Sanders weaponizes race(see link). He seems very quick to play the race card. It wouldnt be surprising if part of his pitch was along the lines of "Hey, JSU is for us(race) and we can really need your help elevating it. Dont do it just for yourself. Do it for your race and teach these white guys a lesson"

Im not saying the recruits are racist.....but they are young....and hes a very motivating speaker who could capitolize on race.

You are missing the point. While there are always exceptions to every situation. The higher you are drafted the more money you make. Playing against weak completion is not the ideal way to become a high draft pick.

Deion has always been racist but more importantly prime is about 1 person.... himself, always has been and always will be.

Let’s see how many end up transferring once the gold plated shine wears off.

They can get that big NIL and transfer after a year or so to get ready for the draft.

This all could have been said about f$u in the 90s

I dont think its the same thing. At least the noles won the national championship in '93.....and was a contender in '92(also beat the cornhuskers in the orange bowl).

JSU is a long way from any 90's fsu team, in both talent and opportunity.

The Ohio Valley Conference(now) is not even worthy to be compared to the ACC in the 90's.

The way he recruits, I too hope he never gets the job!
If he continues this upward trajectory, Deion could fundamentally change the way college hire coaches. Because Deion isn't a coach. He's a frontman, a showman. If he takes his act to a major school and wins with it, other schools will copy the model. Soon, all the head coaches will basically be rainmakers, bringing in the recruits and cash, while all the other guys do the actual coaching, with an assistant head coach handling all the actual head coaching duties.

But will that really happen? I don't think so. I kinda see Deion as the football version of Ponzi. Sooner or later it all comes crashing down.

It doesn’t matter where players commit to go anymore. The entire landscape of cfb is different now. They can take the money, play for JSU for one year, enter the portal, take money from a bigger school and play immediately, get exposure, get drafted…not an issue…
Sad,

One of the posters on this board when talking about A&M's spending spree, wrote that NIL $$ are paid on a yearly (football season ?) basis.

If you transfer schools before your NIL Contract is finished, you lose the remaining amount.

He didn't say or didn't know what happens if you get injured & are unable to play; good contract verbage would take that money away as well.

Could still work out as you suggest but anyone smart enough to earn NIL $$ and give it away, smart enough to prevent some 18 year old from double dipping two schools.

Miami players getting paid monthly for that reason.

As some places they do play are indeed empty, they did out draw Ole Miss and Mississippi State on a few occasions.

I'll tell you something else. The Southern Heritage Classic that JSU plays in at Memphis usually outdraws the Liberty Bowl game that usually features 2 P5 teams...SEC/Big 12.

You know... Carson Wentz isn't that old don't you?
Yes I am aware of that. But Jerry Rice is representative of the days gone by, when the FAMU'S and Gramblings of the football world were often a young black athlete's only avenue into the NFL.

Not to argue but when Jerry Rice was in college there were plenty of avenues for the young black athlete to make the league in D1 and P5.

Steve McNair was mentioned as well, by the 90's there was even more opportunity. I guess the argument for avenues for African American QB's wasn't as much but it was getting there.

Now if the post would have said Ed Too Tall Jones or even Walter Payton I'd understand.

I still think if one chooses the HBCU, 1AA, or D2 route they'd still have a shot. Talent will be found. Will they get drafted as high? The jury is still out on that.
