Dawson back, Sharpe gone

DT Caleb Brantley rsJr likely ED gone?
ILB Alex Anzalone rsJr likely ED gone?
CB Jalen Tabor Jr ED gone.
CB Quincy Wilson Jr ED gone.

LT David Sharpe Jr ED gone.

==========

FS Markus Maye rsSr gone
OLB Daniel McMillian Sr gone.
DT Joey Ivie Sr gone.
ILB Jarrad Davis Sr gone.

QB Austin Appleby Grad Sr gone.
RB/ST Mark Herndon rsSr gone.
WR/ST Ahmad Fulwood Sr gone.
WR/ST Chris Thompson Sr gone.

Losing 11 for sure, likely 13. That's 8 on D, 5 on O.
The rest and 15+ recruits for will be there for 2017.

JMO, but SS Marcell Harris rsJr is likely back, along with S/Nic Nick Washington rsJr.
P Johnny Townsend rsJr is the big question, he's good enough to go now for sure.
If he does, his little brother Tommy is redshirting on the current roster to replace him.

We've been thin at linebacker for 5 years. As good as Muschamp's defenses were, he could never build depth at LB. This year we had some depth, but injuries decimated the position. LB is a KEY for recruiting and we need a couple of guys who can come in and contribute right away.

I think Brantely will amd should go. I am with you in thinking Harris and Washingron come back, I really, really hope Harria returns, we need him.

The fact Townsend is flirting with it tells me he wants to leave.

Whats your guess on Anzalone Insta? i am thinking he leaves but damn if he came back and stayed healthy that would be huge!!!

I find it very odd that both UF and FSU have been so terribly thin at LB for such a long stretch. Even in years when either or both have had quality starters, they've been so thin that a single injury creates major problems.

Major life decision for Anzalone (well, for everyone else, too, but Anzalone, in particular). His floor or ceiling can only be reached if he stays - he either gets hurt again and further hurts his stock or he shows he can stay healthy an entire season and cashes in big time next year. Leaving this year would be a hedge against that worst case scenario but he could be leaving some serious money on the table. I both do and don't envy him right now. lol

I agree with this.

there's not a lot of tape on him for a guy that's been in college for 4 years, which isn't always a deterrent for an NFL GM if the circumstances merit it, but his reason is injury related.

I honestly don't think that if he came back and had another injury that it would hurt his stock marginally more.

But if he stays mostly healthy and gets more tape, the guy can greatly increase his stock.

Sharpe is delusional. Oh well, maybe we will actually put Ivey at LT now and actually have a tackle who can move his feet.

Sharpe was serviceable, but not an NFL quality Tackle IMO. The transition from college to the NFL is huge and it's amazing to me how many #1 & #2 draft picks just don't pan out and how many relative unknowns work their tails off, get better with age and just fit the pro game better.

First let me say that I have zero 'inside info' on Alex.
That said, I think he goes if he wants to play football in the NFL.
He stays if he wants to add to his UF education, and also play another year of college football before hanging up his cleats. JMOHO, nothing more.

Most thought that UF had no LB depth this year, but they were WRONG.
Just because K.Johnson was a 2 star QB in HS, that didn't mean that the Gator coaches were idiots that didn't know what they were doing, or what they were getting.
IMOHO, Johnson played like a 4 star LB in 2016, and will likely start in 2017.

2017 Linebackers:
OLB Kylan Johnson 6-1 231 rsSo
MLB David Reese 6-0 244 So
OLB Vosean Joseph 6-1 226 So
------
OLB Rayshad Jackson 6-0 226 rsSo
OLB Jeremiah Moon 6-4 218 rsFr/So?
------
LB/ST Cristian Garcia 6-1 231 rsSr (a rock solid WO)
With 5 more WO LB'er possibilities.
------
OLB James Houston 6-1 225 Fr - Plantation
OLB Ventrell Miller 6-1 225 Fr - Lakeland

So even if they don't bring in any more in this class, they have 3 with starter experience, and 8 that can play, with 5 WO's for ST's, practice, and/or emergencies.
I would certainly like to see one or two more, but it's not critical imo.

Goodbye and good luck to Sharpe.

C/OG Cameron Dillard rsJr - a departing Grad-xfer
A great guy, a great Gator, so good luck to him and his family.
There are two to battle in the Spring for the 2017 starting OC job.

OC/OG T.J. McCoy rsSo 6-1 308 - He filled in and played great imo.

#4 OC Brett Heggie rsFr 6-3 317 - He took a redshirt in 2016.
Does anyone know exactly why he did? Injury? Academics? Other?

IMO, OG Tyler Jordan Jr needs to work real hard, just to become a decent OG.

Summers is a good coach but I've felt all year he wasn't playing his best combo on OL. Sharpe was 360 with poor agility and feet yet was our LT while we put the most athletic OL at guard? Then we ask our center to do things like get out ahead and pull which would have suited somebody like Jordan but instead we started Dillard, a guy who can't make those reach blocks until he got hurt. Should be addition by subtraction upfront.

Early on I suggested that Shape should be moved to LG with Ivey moved out to LT. Nothing changed my mind across the season. I also said that Sharpe needed to lose about 25-30 pounds so he'd have a better chance to move his feet (stay in front of DE's). If he makes it in the NFL, it might actually be as a giant OG, not as a big/slow OT.

And T.Jordan needs to work on his lower body strength. Too many times he looked like he was on roller skates while trying to keep a DT from crashing the right side of the line. He also seemed to just plain wiff on blocks, several times a game.

TE Goolsby and RB Scarlett could also use a lot of work on how to block. Shouting O'lay' is not a good precursor to making a block...

Shannon has been my favorite coach on this staff from day one and he has done a helluva job in development and talent evaluation. I have read Moon is an absolute beast amd a physical specimen.

In defense of Goolsby, he is more of a hybrid TE and Nuss is using him where he needs more of a glorified OT type TE

To hell with that I won't even blame Nuss for Goolsby's blocking the boy is just soft. He gets bullied even by defenders much smaller than him and he doesn't fight for catches either. He just isn't a physical player .

I also like Shannon, especially as a LB coach.

Moon was compared to Jevon Kearse, by Kearse himself. I'm sure hoping that it turns out to be true.

Goolsby is a good receiver, but he HAS to be able to also block.
I continue to be dismayed that TE Moral Stephens has not been used more. He has excellent hands AND he can block.

Anzalone gone pro

Just as I expected him to. He already has his degree. Good luck to him in the future as an NFL LB.

Damn sucks we never got to see Anzalone healthy for a long time. Probably my favorite defensive player since Janoris.

was cyontai hurt too, i can't even remember who all is hurt anymore it's so many...

The musclecramp went 4-8 when he had the same injury level, another Big Plus from our current coaching staff imo...

they went 4-8 against much harder teams and had wrenches at QB and more injuries on offense and overall that hurt not just on defense

List the season long injuries on the 2016 team to show me what you mean...

The offense lost slot WR Dre Massey before the season even started.
They lost WR Kalif Jackson (6-4) to a broken foot.
They lost RG Antonio Riles rsJr instantly.
Then they lost OC Cam Dillard rsJr
Then they lost RG/OC Tyler Jordan So
Where is OT/OG Andrew Mike rsSo?
They lost QB LDR in the 3rd game.
And others have missed games and/or played injured all season.

The defense was as bad or worse for injuries.
AA FS Marcus Maye
Dawson and Washington missed games.
Both LB'ers, both DE's, both DT's at some point.
That is another long list of injuries.
When you have to bring in tFr and a WO LB for the bowl game....o_O

List the 2013 injuries, I believe you will find more important injuries overall to bigger name players, there's more obscure injuries for some decent players probably at best on the offense this season besides Dre... which injury is deathly similar to losing TE Mcgee in the first game of that season and at least we got to end up seeing how important he was, and even before that at UVA. I know Dre is really good and will be, but in his case there's not proof of it yet as there was compared to Mcgee...

So, losing those upper class OL'men, when you're already in a musclecramp created OL hole, it not as big as losing a TE with Goodsby among several other available?

2013 TE's
Tevin Westbrook 6-5 255 Jr
Clay Burton 6-4 257 Jr

McGee was at UF for 2014 (broke leg) and 2015.

Yeah, and the difference between 4-8 with a loss to GaSo,,,
and going 9-4 (10-4) with a 30-3 bowl win over Iowa, is microscopic... o_O

Whatever....
