"No decision has been made yet," Napier said in a Saturday evening press conference, asked about the rumor mill. "We're still certainly evaluating everything, and I think the main thing here is that our focus is on this team, this group, and the work that's left to be done.

"You know, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

That bridge could be approaching in the very near future, as Florida intends to hire its next head coach "as quickly as we can," per athletic director Scott Stricklin.

Well I do think there is not a 100% agreed upon deal yet but if they are basically right there it will be announced by sometime Tuesday. Napier never makes it sound like he is staying at ULL but who knows if LSU is now targeting him or not since they aren't getting Riley according to him.

I believe we would have had an announcement today if we had lost to FSU and an announcement on Monday/Tuesday with a win. Therefore I think and announcement comes out tomorrow. That is my public relations/marketing opinion.

I hope you are right. I doubt LSU could get him trying to jump in at the last minute but don't 100% rule it out just because he is living there now. The best outcome and what would cause their fans to have a meltdown would be if we do get Napier and they end up with Stoops.

I think LSU ends up with Stoops or Aranda. I actually think Napier prefers UF over LSU for a few reasons (investigations/how they treated Orgeron/SEC west vs East)

I had to correct your first sentence.
Your welcome!😛

I believe Aranda is hands off as he may have signed an extension with Baylor, unless they buyout his contract. LSU even seems crazy enough to go after Fisher along with his outrageous buyout.

Yes I’m sure they will go after Fisher in which I would laugh if they got 4 loss Fisher.

It actually surprises me how many LSU fans would be alright with this guy. I thought he wasn't cut out for the SEC even before he did this.
I remember you posting this on another board. That's disturbing. He kissed his very own opportunity for a bigger coaching gig goodbye. I can't imagine Stricklin not getting wind of this.

They are near meltdown mode I think. Went from laughing at us about Napier because they had Riley locked up to now arguing about why Napier was never pursued by them and blaming their boosters for not going after him.

If they don't get Aranda then....I'm not really sure what they're Avenue is.

Muschamp?

We will see who they end up with but I’m guessing they may have screwed up

lol Aranda would be a decent hire probably but It will be pretty funny if they get Stoops. They will go crazy.

Honestly Stoops is kind of a nice fit for them. I just oddly don't think that's going to happen.

Im sure they've already reached out to Joe Brady, but I don't think he wants to be a college coach.

Aranda might end up at USC.

maybe they go and take a shot at Kendall Briles?

Im mostly interested because I think it's wild that USC and LSU have had their coaching search open for months now and we're going to name a new coach a week after firing our last one.

I think USC is looking at hiring an NFL guy, so I'm actually not terribly surprised that we haven't heard much out of that camp.

My guess is LSU could end up with Fisher, but only out of desperation and coughing up $50 million, just for his buyout alone. Now if he were to be fired, he will be owed $95 million.

Jimbo at LSU would be a monster.

I know you guys don’t think much of Jimbo, but he understands the importance of building a modern professional staff more than anyone except Saban.

He left FSU mainly because the admin/boosters there were still stuck in the pre-Saban mindset (the school recruits itself, you don’t need fancy facilities and a brain trust of analysts, etc.). aTm offered him everything he asked for, so he left.

LSU is one of the few schools who can offer him even more and has the recruiting to match. It’s more pressure, but Jimbo is a driven guy.

So I really don't disagree with most of that, I just think that Jimbo hasn't been the same since the divorce.

But, he does have solid connections in Texas now and, like my argument about Riley, he can use that to bolster that Louisiana talent.

I'm just not sure he's as invested as he was 8-10 years ago.

Solid coach but overrated. If he built such a good staff how come he’s lost 4 games or more in 6 of his 12 seasons as a coach.

I bought into the divorce theory before, but now I know better.

Saban changed the game. Dabo understood this and got huge investments from Clemson. The FSU admin/boosters didn’t get it, were annoyed by the yearly negotiations with Sexton, and let him walk.

Clemson is now the only ACC program that can hang with the SEC. Jimbo saw this coming and left while he could get a deal with a program willing to give him what is needed to be relevant today.

Care to update/edit your thread title, Fevered Brain? Well, at least before @sadgator buddy Shime starts another pointless Napier hired thread.

His first few years at FSU were a solid rebuild to an NC. At that time, Bama was the only team completely following the Saban process and the 2013-2014 FSU teams were loaded with NFL players (edit: and that was the year Auburn had the 109 yard FG return).

It’s possible the divorce contributed to the sharp falloff after the 2016 Bama game. There was a series of QB recruit busts. Hopkins got kicked out for punching a woman at a bar. Henry was a headcase. Francois was out for a season. And the locker room culture got toxic.

I think Jimbo is doing about as well at aTm as can be expected. I’ve always said he’s a B+ coach, but he understands how to build the Saban-like infrastructure needed to win today. At LSU, he’d have more firepower than at aTm.

FWIW I think Fisher has about the same record as Sumlin did at A&M before he got fired.
